Madrid Gay Pride 2008

The first gay pride parade in 1969, known as the March on Stonewall, started as a protest against discrimination and violence against gays in New York City. Today, pride events have become an annual ritual and have grown to include thousands of gay and gay-friendly participants, not to mention hundreds of spectators. Many gays and lesbians dress in bright colors, head-to-toe leather or sometimes next to nothing. But regardless of the attire, all of the participants join the festivities to remind the world that gays deserve the same rights as others and people should be free to live their own lifestyle, void of judgement or hate. Gay pride is also a symbol of solidarity and an opportunity to express the vivid personalities which reflect the diverse gay communities throughout the world. During this time (and in many places year round), the skies are covered with the gay pride flags and banners, the symbol of gay solidarity and freedom.

Hi Maria,
Strong light and a well thought-of patch of color. Plus the long shadows here and there. A very peculiar feeling in this one. Well done.

Hi Maria,

I love your picture. The idea of capturing the red high heels is gorgeous. But I have to say that the shadows of the other passers by irritated me somehow. I tried a workshop in which I cropped the original so that no other shadows are seen. I think the high heels draw more attention that way. Hope you don't mind.

Hello Maria,
I really appreciate your image. The red colour is a real eye catcher.
But when I looked at it, I got the idea that this image might also work without the shadows and with another frame. So I tried a workshop, hoping that you don't mind.

Hi Maria.

I really like the left two-thirds of the photo but suggest you crop to (almost) square to lose the shadow top right which I find a bit distracting.

Excellent sharpness and contrast and the selective colour works extremely well with this subject.

I like the point of view of course and the play with the light and shadows. The only I don't like is the partial desaturation I never like it : ) Despite this, the result is excellent.

Pero bueno María, debíamos estar el uno al lado del otro. Guenther me lo acaba de hacer notar y efectivamente, son muy parecidas, aunque sinceramente te digo que la tuya me gusta muchíiiiiiiiiiiisimo más. Esos zapatos rojos dan un toque atómico a la fotografía, de verdad.
Me encantará ver tu visión del Gay pride madrileño.

Fantastic shot - a winner!
Maria, you show us something new with each of your captures!
Not only that you have that other red shoe slightly off
the ground, but this shadow of a mother and a child holding
hands - who could ask for a better metaphor in their frame!?!
Also, great b/w conversion, light and textures.

Hm,...
Well out of all workshops I like your original.
I do not intend to be offensive to anyone yet I wish to express my personal view.
Cloning (as seen in workshop)was not well done, could see difference in colour, light and size of the grain of the road. Cloning is applicable in minor details otherwise it does not belong to domain of photography any more, it becomes like design or something like that, unless, you want to achieve artistic effect in your expression.
Another workshop with croping was not so appealing,...at least not to me.

I guess the most ideal would be to get chance to try to get shot without shadows but, as we all know, that is not always possible especialy in this case.
In here shadows do not look odd rather they contribute somewhat to the nature of the shot and thus they fit appropriately.
I agree with Paul, would try to get rid of right upper shadow.

muy hermoso este foto, me gusta mucho los colores in B&N contra el color rojo, hace pensar en lo contraste de un mundo diferente donde caminan los homossexuales con su color, sus diferencias. bueno y hermoso trabajo
