Photographer’s Note
In the flee market with its narrow lanes near the Golden Horn, Abdullah the contraband cigarette seller is leaving to go back home.
He is said to be 92 years old, a fine gentleman but one needs to shout in his ear to be understood (actually, I like that WS photo a lot !). Everyone knows and respects him, he is a sort of mascot and very popular.
The area is said to be dangerous, the 2 ladies in the BG are neighbours and have had their stuff stolen repeatedly (also by the police as it is illegal to sell 2nd hand clothes in these lanes, no permit is given to sell in the streets there).

Great portrait of charming old man. Love his tennis suit, his hat and all accessories pointing to his age (like cane, that ear stuff and so on). The background well describes situation. And 92 is quite an age for working man. Imposing.
And WS - it's really something - like it too :))

Hi Catherine,
How did you mind such photographic faces with such expressions!
And yeah he seems quite old I can say that... But 92?!?! I cannot imagine 92 years on earth! And he is still working. I certainly admire his "addiction" to life and never give up...
And I also admire your ability to find such amazing faces by walking around streets... :)

Bonjour, Catherine.
Une prise de rue complexe et réussie.
J'aime beaucoup plusieurs "niveaux d'action" et l'ambiance générale.
Amitiés, Grazyna.

Ciao Catherine!
Beautiful shot with a somehow tender note! I like the golden light on the old man contrasting with the cold background... it tells who is the real star of the tale!

P.S. My grandfather at 96 used to walk for almost 20 Kilometers a day and to climb the Apennines with me... I look to Abdullah and I remember of Arrigo! I really thank you for this shot

Hello Catherine. Indeed, an impressing photo. A photographic narration. The background is interesting, but view rests on the old man. Clothes, stick, cigarette, carrying bag, - everything is worth seeing. For me the photo is a skillful person study protruding far. Best regards, Wolfgang.

Hi Cath,
You were again at the right place in Istanbul. How can you feel that the real photography is there?
BTW, the workshop photo is a missed masterpiece. I tried my best to recover it.
Hugs,

Bonjour Catherine,
la photo qui inspire la philosophie. Elle a surtout la dimension du temps. L'ambience est intriguante aussi. La note rajoute encore. Merci, chere amie,

Hi Catherine... Yes, the point of is this audiofone in the ear gives kind of tender touch to this photo that is very interesting, somehow I can notice his soul, and this is quite important in a portrait. Thanks.

a touching street scene... the gentleman looks a bit lost in this "dangerous" place yet obviously he belongs to the place, for sure...
he's the "hommie" here...

Bonjour Catherine,
Yves.

Outstanding this one as well. Kinda like a scene from a film noir, for me. The guy looks like a mix of nice guy and shady character, he seems preocuppied and slightly worried, there is some parallell action in the background, and the guy behind is looking straight in the camera. I must congratulate, and admit that I tried to take a number of similar shots, but they came out quite mediocre (so I did not post them here).
cheers,
CT

An impressive presentation of an old man. I like this theme, have some "oldies" in my portfolio. Old people are more attractive for photographers than young, I presume.
Regards.
