Photographer’s Note

Crossing the place de la Bastille to take the métro yesterday afternoon (Paris time), I crossed the path of a young asian guy dancing in the street, with slow movements, gloved hands and wide expressions with his eyes and mouth.
Strangely as it may seems, I had an appointment with the sun less than an hour later and needed some time to get there (more to come tomorrow on that particular subject, I hope).
But who was that man? What was he doing? Why?
So I went back, sat down on a block of concrete protecting a pedestrian crossing, watching him for a while, all by himself as only a few people seemed to notice his behavior, and took my camera out of my pocket...
A few minutes later, he straightened, took his gloves off and came to me.
His name is Izuru Mori.
He's Japanese and coming from Kyoto.
He's staying in Paris for 2 months and will try to dance 400 times while he's here, on several locations each day.
2 p.m. Cluny-La Sorbonne intersection
3 p.m. on the corner of the Banque de France, place de la Bastille
4 p.m. place Colette, near the Palais-Royal
5 p.m. on the corner of Sephora beauty shop near the Samaritaine
6 p.m. just above the Odéon métro station
7 p.m. in front the the Miramar theatre in Montparnasse
To quote him: This action is ventilation of conflict beneath one's physical surface in the city. It's exploring one's latent capacities of self-identification in a crowd.
Simply being here... ;-)
