Photographer’s Note
Papar is 38 kilometres south of Kota Kinabalu. Its name means flat or open land, and the area is characterised by low lying coastal areas which extend inland towards the Crocker Range.. Traditionally this was good rice growing land and the flat open padi fields may have given it the name. There are also areas of tidal wetland that are home to mangrove trees and saltwater palm or nipah.
Sunset triggered lots of activity on Papar beach. Maybe someone can fill me in on what exactly these people were gathering, maybe some kind of shrimps?

This picture comes from my favourite sunset series, but for most shots I found it difficult to get a really good scan. This one comes close enough. The original (in WS) was shot in portrait format.

It's peaceful sunset in this picture. With the horizontal lines and warm light color details make this shot interesting, people silhouette make a well balance and more outstanding.
( I think they were gathering some shells, not shrimps :)

Hi Benny,
Chromatic sunset tones are very attractive with silhouettes of visitors on wet beach. Grains on photo adds great value for me and your workshop post can be your primary post without any crop. Pink stains from sun and on sky, dark sand bands are fantastic. Congratulations. Have a nice weekend.
Best Regards,

Bonsoir Benny
et bien je trouve que le scan donne un bel effet à cet ensemble. J'aime les silhouettes et le grain de la photo. Bravo, beau travail.

Hi Benny,
Excellent sunset photo with those people collecting the bounty of the flooded land. The sun is like an orange put on the stick, and 2+1 compo of the silhouette is just well done to break the symmetry. In such a photo i would not be afraid of using the full vertical format. Cheers,
Deniz

Lot of the people are really very poor in a certain places in the world. Really. We tend to forget it all the time.
Very good photo, kind of a strange one.
