Photographer’s Note
The sailor leaves...
This is a huge and beautiful statue in a wonderful park in San Diego's North Harbor, the Bob Hope Memorial Park. I ran upon it by coincidence and was impressed by the romantic feeling it evokes - especially at sunset. You almost feel like they're real people.
San Diego is California's 2nd largest city, with a population of approx. 1.3 Million. It shares a border with Tijuana, Mexico and lies south of Orange County. San Diego has miles of beaches, a mild Mediterranean climate and great sea food restaurants.
This statue is just perfect for San Diego, since the city has 16 military facilities for the United States Navy, the United States Coast Guard and the United States Marine Corps. Right next to the statue is the USS Midway on display.
San Diego is sort of the "sailor's home" in the US and this statue is a wonderful tribute to these brave men and their families.

Hello Linda,
After seeing your three images and you are a lover of sunrise/sunset same as me!
great use of the romantic statue as silhouette against the setting sun! the image is sharp with wonderful colour and details
I personally will use the statue as a shade to stop the OE from the direct sun and will brings out more colouration in the image, Just my thought! hope you do not mind!
many thanks for the sharing
best regards
Tony

Well captured Linda-
I believe this is a statue of the famous Alfred Eisenstaedt photograph. It was shot on VJ day (Victory over Japan) in Times Square. There have been many people who claim to be that couple. However, no one has been proven yet.
Nice light, and great note. If you didn't mention it was a statue, no one would be able to tell.
The original photo is in a W/S. Although it is a copyrighted photo, it is in public domain now (I hope).

Hi Linda,
toller Sonnenuntergang mit der Statue als schöne Silhouette, die Komposition ist exczellent, Farben sind toll und die Spiegelungen der Sonne auf dem Wasser ebenso, schönes Foto.
Beste Grüße

Hello Linda!
I found you because of your son's page and I would like to tell you that I admire your family, taking pictures together and exchanging it all at home! It sounds great! My wife doesn´t use to see my photos, but she loves her microscope. ;-D My son is only 7yo and I am encouraging him to walk his first steps on photography.
Otherwise, my father used to take pictures with his Rolleiflex when he was young and he is always encouraging me. I have his Rolleiflex and, like you, I also have my grandfather's state-of-the-art (;-D) Voigtländer Anastigmat 1:7.7.
I choosed this photo to critique first because it's mood looks like coming from the Voigtländer, capturing the romantic scene (pose) we unfortunately don´t see anymore.
Congratulations for all your family!
Regards,
Zeca

Hey Linda, how are things?
Terrific shot here, full of great atmosphere and romance. The statue perfectly stands out against the magic light of the sunset which emphasize even more the beauty of the compo. Not an easy situation to find the right setup for the camera, but you managed pretty well and you delivered a great shot!
Cheers,
Igor
