Photographer’s Note
Painted Rock Petroglyph Site is is about 90 miles southwest of Phoenix, Arizona.
Over 40 petroglyph sites have been recorded in the area. Most of those sites are small in size. This Painted Rock site is the largest, with about 800 images. Unfortunately, due to wear & tear, visitors are asked to walk along the outer trail surrounding the rocks. Visitors no longer allowed to climb along the boulders.
Formerly a unit of the Arizona State Parks system, jurisdiction of Painted Rock Petroglyph Site reverted to the Bureau of Land Management in 1989.

Certainly looks and reads like an interesting place. In regard to the image, I would have prefered if it was taken at a closer range (or a longer zoom).. Something like a stone with a petroglyph in the foreground and the hill or other parts of the site in the background - if that was not prevented by some barbed wire, that is :-)
As reference, check out Alain Briot's great images of American petroglyphs. Of course, unlike us, he's a professional photographer. But watching is the first step of learning.
