Photographer’s Note
Burmese woman belonging to the Karen ethnic group in Myanmar. She lives across the border in Thailand, in a reservation for refugees. The “long neck” practice has long been abolished as it is deemed inhuman. In the touristic place where she works, women do it “voluntarily.” The humongous profits from the tourism industry keep within the tour companies, but few leftovers go to the villagers.
