[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
The Phi Ta Khon festival in Loei in the mountains of North-Eastern Thailand is often called the Ghost Festival. The Spirit Festival would be a better name, since the spirits summoned up are not those of dead people but the spirits of the hills, fields and forests. Its unique character is that most of the men –and today even some women- make and wear their traditional masks and colourful costumes. For two days and nights they will dance and make merry in a wild carnival. Traditionally they believed that they became possessed by the spirits and some still do (alcohol is a more likely explanation) It is wild, chaotic, exhilarating and totally unique to this tiny mountain town. The masks are made and decorated according to tradition handed down across the generations. Many of the dancers carry 'crador' or representations of the penis: these phallic representations are danced through the street.Here a dancer carries his 'crador' before him.(I had to reduce this image far too much before I could upload it, so there is a reduction of quality.)

Hehehe... Fertile isn't it! With such a tool, no wonder! Joke aside, nice colorful shot, maybe a bit grainy but very pleasant and informative too. Good Learn about the world photo!!

Olá Kevin, I see with pleasure that you have been quite an active TE member lately. Love this one because of the artistic representation of the figures. The colors attract me very much. Also the festival seems pretty interesting and I would love to see it in live. The scene has a good approach from the front, but also a too sugestive situation, considering the tong of the mask on the right ;-)
