Visitors to my gallery would be familiar to this landmark of Jodhpur, the Jaswant Thada. This memorial is architectural landmark in Jodhpur & is located nearly 400m in the north-east of the Meherangarh Fort, India's largest fort. Built in 1899 A.D. in the memory of Maharaja Jaswant Singh II, the 33rd Rathore ruler of Jodhpur, the monument is built out of intricately carved sheets of marble. These stones are extremely thin and polished therefore they emit a warm glow when the sun's rays shine across their surface. The building has a porch, four domed turrets, and a large, square tower set in the middle of its roof. A set of stairs and a T-shaped walkway covered in a checkerboard pattern lead up to the memorial. These are not visble here as this is the view of the rear side of the memorial.

Buildings like this one are known as chhatris in India, and are also referred to as cenotaphs. They are dedicated to a person whose remains lie elsewhere. They can also function as an initial burial tomb for someone whose remains are later interred.

There were tens of pigeons roosting on the roof and dome of the Jaswant Thada. They are quite restive, flying and circled back around to land about every 10-15 minutes. Pretty amazing!

I had gone down from the main road, over the rock outcrops, past thorn bushes to get this angle. I liked the contrast between the reddish boulders and the pristine white of the Jaswant Thada. Pressed the shutter as soon as the flock of pigeon took flight. Hope you’ll like it.

Hi Angshuman
Beautiful capture. Excellent architecture, good point of view and these pigeons animating the image :).
Regards

Hi Angshuman,
Nice thinking to include the red rocks in the foreground as it adds a good additional splash of colour to the photo. Managing to capture all the pigeons scattering within the photo is great, and it really is a nice photo.
I've never heard of this place before, so thanks for informing me about it!
Regards
Lee

Hi Angshu,
Without all those birds it was just a nice picture, but now with them all over the place it makes it much more interesting in composition and focalpoint. The upward view is also something i like to see, makes the whole building even more majestic than it already is....a very good one.
Regards, Henk

Hi Angshuman,

Beautifull image...
The birds are interesting here.... as well as the composition including the rock patterns in foreground.
Excellent version of the beautifull land.
All the best, dear friend.

Salut Angshuman,
Quel magnifique temple. Je l'ai raté lorsque j'étais à Jodhpur. Dommage. Belle prise de vue. Amitié, Patty.

I like the upward POV and the inclusion of the red rocks in the frame at the bottom. The light is lovely and you have captured amazing detail. Perfect timing to capture the circling pidgeons. It's funny how one pidgeon takes off and they all follow suit. Good work

Hello Angshuman,
your effort to come down was rewarded in several ways, first you got a very good color combination with the several layers made by the front rocks, the chhatri, and the sky.
Then you have this POV which makes the chhatri even more impressive and then of course, the cherish on top of the cake, the pigeons flying over the scene giving it much dinamism.
Cheers.
Paulo

nice architecture and interesting red rocks, the birds are a good bonus

Hi Angshu,
A good POV and the inclusion of the FG rocks give depth to the scene. Warm colors and sharp details, good to have all these birds flying around too/
Good work
Laurent

Hello Angshu,

At first I thought it were crows or even big bats, since we only see the silouettes of the birds. That have it a bit of a creepy atmosphere, but an interesting structure, a good note and you also made an effort to get this point of view as I can read ;-).

Greetings!
Dennis

Hi Angshumanda,
I think "down from the main road, over the rock outcrops, past thorn bushes to get this angle" was totally worth it. A unique POV as usual and techinically quite perfect too.
Thanks for sharing,
Shaeri
I was referring to your "Monkey story" in Jusni's shot..similar ambiance and mood I thought.

Hello Angshu. There are so many pigeons against the spotless blue sky! Beautiful capture of this architecture with low pov. The rock in the foreground making good contrast in shape and color. I like the image complemented well with the note. Thanks again for sharing and best regards. Jusni

Hi Angshuman

another beautiful architecture. An interesting place and informations. Good shot, fine caught moment with flying pigeons. Well done photo.

Very nice point of view, which gives a combination of the building and of the rock base, the two contrasting very nicely together and with the blue sky. The sharpness is also excellent here. The birds are a great plus.

The fortress impressive the pigeons creating atmosphere and the indirect lighting a good anatomy in architectural the building drawing. I praise you.

Bonjour, cher Angshu,
Philippe

Hello Angshuman,
very nice presentation of this landmark of Jodhpur. The red rock in the foreground and the reddish Jaswant Thada with the cluster of the flighting birds, create a sense of fantastic atmosphere,an eerie mystique.Informative your note with an excellent management of the light and the colors.

Have a nice week,Danos

Hi Angshuman,
You have done a great setting in this capture, I like the graphism of the rocks in FG, the wonderful architecture of the memorial cut away on the blue sky, and certainly the alive and dynamic role of the pigeons flying.
It is a very harmonic and attractive set, with great light and a few beautiful colors.
Nice work, my friend.
Best regards,
Josep

HI Angshuman,

The Jaswant Thada is impressive. The point of view leads our eyes toward the central tower of the memorial. The fiver towers surrounding the memorial are like guards protecting it. There is a good contrast between the colors of the stones in the foregorund with the colors of the memorial. The subject is well framed. Have a nice day.

Hi Angshu. A true beauty, i remember your previous one at this location. I picked it as a favorites. This one is excellent as well with the great light, beautiful colours on the rocks and the so many birds taken at the right time.

Hi Angshu,
Very beautiful view of this impressive monument. I really liked the contrast of the red rocks with the building and against a nice tone of blue sky, with the special touch given by the many pigeons around the dome. The colors and light are just fantastic.
Regards,
Ricardo

You show us a splendid view of this temple area. I lkie the view over the red colured rocks. Well done.
Best wishes,
Achim

Hi Angshu.
Je vois que les pigeons sont ici aussi célèbres que ceux de la place Saint Marc à Venise. Ils dynamisent bien la photo. Cette photo est bien composée avec ce premier plan de rochers rouges d'où l'édifice semble surgir. Belle lumière.

Hi Angshuman

Marvellous repetition of the many pigeons, with a superb warm vs cold colour contrast, between the red fg rocks & blue sky. Good sharpness, & tfs!

Ola Angshuman,
Magnifica foto com este templo rodeado de pássaros , a sua arquitectura e de grande beleza , gostei muito deste primeiro plano com as rochas vermelhas, bom contraste de cores, parabéns!!
Um abraço Gonçalo

I love it, the ornate architecture goes well with the birds. Shame about the recent bombings in nearby Jaipur.

Hello Angshu,
An amazing piece of architecture, nicely located on top of the hill!
I like the composition, and the red rocks in front give a fine colour contrast and add depth...
Sharp fine details, the birds add value and the blue sky works well as backdrop!

hallo angsuman

i like this one quite a bit. the flock of birds seems to match the complicated architectural decor of the building well. and the foreground rock brings in very nice color contrast. well seen, my friend!

kristaps

Angshuman,
the perfect moment of the day to explore the shadows to provide maximal contrast in the rock in the foreground and also of the building. The birds are certainly a nice detail to enrich the composition.
Peter

Hallo Angshuman, just great photo. I really enjoy! No doubt perfect POV and composition just in the right moment! Excellent colors indeed. Fantastic place!

TFS and regards,

Philip

Hello Angshu
The rocks are a good starting point leading nicely the viewer, to the impressive and beautiful architecture from a well chosen POV. Love the morning light and the flock of pigeons adding lot's of dynamism. A good sense of depth and interesting note as usual...
Best regards from France
Marilyn

An impressive photo of this amazing fort on the hill. I love the red rock formations and the landscape its in as well. And the birds are also a great final touch!
Namaste,
Dave

Hello Angshuman! I missed some of the most spectacular shots, what a shame! You really know how to present a building and how to make it look different and even more exciting than it already is. I like the POV you chose with the red stone as your "entry point" and that we actually look up and find nothing but birds flying around the building and I guess this makes the photo special. It makes the photo actually "alive". Very very good, I like it a lot. Barbara.

Hi Angshu,
Great shot.
This temple is beautiful and the way you captured the view, with all these pigeons flying from and to the same direction gives a very dynamic dimension to the whole.
Regards,
Marianne

Hi Angshu,
Fabulous framing!! The boulders look like huge chunks of choclate topped with a delicate ivory carving. The detail is eqquisite, the low light gives you wonderful color & the birds add a note of reality to this surreal scene.

I liked your monkey story.

Good afternoon Angshu,
Don't be annoyed for what I'm going to say but the fact is that your picture has reminded me the scene of "Indiana jones and the temple of Doom", in which a million of bats were flying around the dark evilish palace of "Pankot". Jokes apart, the shot is excellent with a superb sharpness and colours. Well done.
