Photographer’s Note

Château de Sceaux is located in the town of the same name. The original castle, with the extensive park designed by Le Nôtre, belonged to King Louis XIV's finance minister. During the Revolution, the land was seized, the castle demolished, and the park used for agriculture. In the mid-1800s a new castle was built and the gardens restored.

Although relatively close to Paris, this park is "off the beaten track" for most tourists, and is frequented by locals. The men in this photo are enjoying a hot weekend under a large old tree by the side of the Canal.
