They say that a white lotus blossom rose at the place where Baengnyeonsa, a great Buddhist priest had Iived away from the world, and they built up a temple and named it Baengnyeonam after his name in the period of King Shinmun's reign during the Silla Dynasty. On the other hand, others say that Muryomkuksa, another great Buddhist priest founded it in the 5th year of King Hungtok's Reign of Silla Dynasty. There used to be fourteen Buddhist temples in the golden age of Buddhism and nine Buddhist monks cultivated their own moral sense, so that they call the place Gucheon-dong. It was the temple where lots of great Buddhist priests such as Puyong, Puhyu, Chongkwan and Pyokam were famous in the middle period of Choson Dynasty.
