Photographer’s Note

The wish list for a visit to Egypt often includes the climb to watch the fantastic sunrises on Mt Sinai and obsorb a little biblical history. Its quite a surreal experience, particularly on a moonless and starless night plodding up a steep hill (or mountain) by the light of a headlamp only. The last portion is a series of steep, deep and uneven steps - all 700 of them. This young gentleman from a local tribe (for a price) provided a strong arm and elbow over the last 200 steps. The last 4 steps are narrow and one person only - and as the last step was taken solo - here he was full of joy and triumph that between us we had made the summit. Sunrise was in 3 minutes time. His assistance in acheiving the objective was worth every cent and the sunrise spectacular. (see workshop for the view)
