São Sebastião Church was raised in Porto de Cima Town in 1779. In order to give religious attendance to the local population, colonel Dom Alfonso Botelho de Sampaio e Souza and captain Antonio Rodrigues de Carvalho had projected and initiated the construction of a chapel under the invocation of Our Lady da Guia and São Sebastião. With the population growth, the chapel had to be extended. In 1840, the caretakers received authorization for the workmanships.
It's a humble church. The façade is very simple and internally, it does not have valuable artistic elements. The building was victim of many discharacterized reforms, and the consequences had been, in part, attenuated for works of restoration carried after being considered historic site. A place for praying like any other church anyhow.

Tech note: in the workshop, my first dualtone attempt (the concrete block in the foreground was disturbing and the clouds were with an overexposure effect). Why not to post it? The color version? No, I don't have it...the layer was erased without wanting :(

Hi Carlos,
If you wanted to produce a put b&w image than you failed. There are remains of colour inside, or better said a kind of green toning. But, i like this ;-) Yes really, it gives the image something extra and brings contrast to the more greytones on the curch and grass in the foreground.
Regards, Henk
p.s.
Always work on a copy my friend, never on the original..!!!

hi Carlos,
I definitely like what I see, for some reason such sky always make me feel that the clouds are moving really fast, as in fast-forward in a movie. the simplicity of the church works well with the strong landscape around it, and I like a lot how you used the tree on the right as a natural frame. nice one :)

take care,
Kristine

Jordi

hello carlos

a great portrat of the church. i like the dramatic sky and the tropical setting on the right side of the frame. excellent light on the building itself. as henk noted, i guess, it's not a pure b&w, but rather 'dark green white'. for me - not a problem at all :)

warm regards,
kristaps

Bom dia Carlos!

Belo trabalho. Um abraço, Consuelo

Hi Carlos, excelletnt b/w image, with an old style mood and composiotn, excellent quality and interesting note too.
thanks, ciao

Ola Carlos, the white parts and all the image are superb illuminated. The BW effect on the clouds and on the church with the rest comes very very good together.
I like the way you composed it with the tree on the right.
Have a nice afternoon.

Olá Carlos,
the green mentioned by Henk is a bit there, and the sky has a soft green touch. That is a pity as the rest is not disturbed by that. It is clear and sharp with good textures and well composed with the view through the church and tree.
Lieben Gruss, Ulf

Oi Carlos ,

Maria

Hello Carlos! Even though it's a simple scene, your simple PP made it special! Love the way you composed this shot! The light and shadows really worked for this shot! rgds.

hi carlos
beauty lies in simplicity. this is a stunning shot. i agree that the curch is built simple, but look at the surroundings. the thick mist and the tree on the foreground does excellent job for framing. the sharpness is supreb. no place for complaint...thanks for sharing.
cheers...

P.S: i will be out of TE for the next two weeks! but do keep in touch...

Hej Belido,
Who needs the colorvision, when we get this one. sometimes historical sites just suites in BW, don't know if it has to do with that all old photos are BW or if it de facto is easier to se architecture in BW, or dualtone.
cheers Anders

Hola Carlos,
Estupendo encuadre y buenos detalles.

gorgeous one! looks rustic yet very urban in this BW tone. that fishtail palm to the right reminds me of home..they are all over in the farm. just for you to know that a big pot of it lately i saw on sale in a nursery here is $129.99!!
anyway, this is as usual a great work and the exposures you chose just worked magically!
regards.
Benedict

Carlos,
This contrasty BW is amazing, very eyecatcher.
I like your compo too, nice post.

Hi Carlos. I'm transported with this work. It's nearly timeless. I’m interested in the left-light right-dark composition as well as the almost reverent “head hung down” aspect of the willow (?) on the right. In my mind it’s almost the main character in this work. In my own world, I would have liked the sign at center right to not be there but that's likely my own need for suspension of reality more than your aesthetic. It would have also required a major detour through Photoshopland.

Thank you so much for this. Loved it. Kev

Oi Carlos,

Maravilhosa!

Abracos,

Flavia

Strange,but fascinating!!!
Looking more than 10 minutes this image and I like it more and more. Why? Dont know, but I do

Hi Carlos,
fantastic atmosphere with mystery.
A scene taken from the movie really nice,

hi Carlos
this is very different of what you do usually, although i like the contrast of the church and sky , i am not fan of the colors of the trees,

however it is an interesting photo.

Parc bien entretenus.

Ola Carlos,
A really impressive work. I liked a lot the final result after the photo processing. The clouds give a very dramatic atosphere and make the picture much more interesting. Nice work.

Fantastic sky and lovely atmosphere!
Nice point of view!

Hello Carlos. Nice bw conversion in good contrast and saturation of this shot. The lighting on the face of the building contrasting well with the backdrop and that strange looking palm balances well in the frame. Well done and best regards. Jusni

Olá Carlos,
nice combination of the black and the green Sepia of the image, known as dualtone.I like the perspective of the shot as the low clouds that have covered the Mt.The placement of the tree in the right has balanced plesantly the scene.Informative your note too.

Hi Carlos!
It`s strange ,yesterday I was not able to open this thumbnail,no problems with other images.Maybe my PC didn`t like it......
I like it and I love this simple churcharchitecture, which I`ve seen in Southamerica,Cape Verde, and Portugal.A very good composition with nice greenish tones.Good management of the strong light and great contrast.

Bela foto!

hello Carlos
the clouds give here a superb effect, and I like the stong contrast between the lightend foreground with the drak mountains behind the clouds!I also like the green you have let on these mountains, that creates a kind of unreal landscape!Very well done!
Have a nice day.

Hi Carlos :
this or that, I don't care... I LIKE IT!
This is very different from most stuff we see around and, after all, any form of Art, photography included, calls for Freedom of Expression! God forbid if we all had to stick to "rules"!
I love the view, the most unusual dualtone, and the huge amount of dynamics provided by those clouds.
Excellent!
You have a great weekend, I'll see ya soon.
Ciao,
Fulvio.

Hi Carlos,
Superb atmosphere...
Great light...
Bautiful POV...
Excellent!

Bom-dia Carlos,
Bonito trabalho.
Passa um bom dia

Hi Carlos,
Waow! This sky is so impressive! It gives very dramatic dimension to your composition, stressed by the B&W (nearly B&W) treatment.
The light on the church is excellent. Great contrasts too.
Well done,

Hi Carlos,
beautiful B&W shot with great contrast and good POV,
well done,
Dimitris.

The toning is very attractive ,and picture great in both texture and tones. Excellent .

(Don't worry about mistakes .... Carolin and Stephanie Tatin were two sisters in the South of France, in a restaurant.
One day, one of them prepared a traditional apple pie, but forget the pastry. Realizing her mistake on time, she puts the pastry on top of the apples when half-cooked, before turning over the whole thing and obtaining the now worldwide famous Tatin pie! )

Amicalement ,

Hello Carlos,

Your composition and subject are very well, also you placed the church excellent to the left.
I find personal this picture through the black & white a little bit sadly.
We live in a very colourful world my friend Carlos, I would certainly the WS in colour have posting.
Very well done, thanks for sharing.

Carlos,
Peter

Beautiful tones here.. I love your treatment! Regards, Doug
