Το Λαβράκι
Είναι επίσης γνωστό με το όνομα λύκος αλλά και με άλλα τοπικά ονόματα που οφείλονται στην επιδεξιότητα και ταχύτητα της επίθεσης του όταν κυνηγάει, αλλά και στην εξαιρετικά ισχυρή του αντίσταση όταν συλλαμβάνεται από τους ψαράδες. Η επιστημονική του ονομασία είναι Dicentratrchus labrax. Το σώμα του έχει σχήμα επίμηκες, αρκετά συμπιεσμένο, αδύνατο, όπως όλα τα ψάρια ταχύτητας. Το κεφάλι του είναι τυπικό αρπακτικού και τα μάτια του ζωντανά και κινητικά. Το στόμα του είναι πλατύ οπλισμένο με δόντια. Στη ράχη του υπάρχει ένα πρώτο πτερύγιο που στηρίζεται από αγκαθωτές ακτίνες, ενώ το δεύτερο πτερύγιο είναι μαλακό, αλλά δυνατό.

Το ουραίο πτερύγιο είναι σχεδόν δίλοβο με κοίλο άκρο. Το σώμα του είναι σκεπασμένο με λέπια γυαλιστερά, ασημένια, άσπρα στην κοιλιά ενώ η ράχη είναι γκρίζα και καμιά φορά πολύ σκούρα. Σπάνια, μερικά σκούρα σημάδια στολίζουν τα πλευρά ενώ ένα μεγαλύτερο (σημάδι) είναι τοποθετημένο στο επικάλυμμα. Αυτό αποτελείται από δύο λέπια ενώ το προεπικάλυμμα είναι δαντελωτό. Μπορεί να φτάσει το 1 μέτρο σε μήκος και βάρος 12-13 κιλά!

Mediterranean Seabass

The Greeks also call it “lykos"" (wolf) or have given it other nicknames due to its attacking skill and speed and its fierce resistance when caught by fishermen. Its scientific name is Dicentratrchus labrax. Its body is oblong, relatively flat and slim, like all fast-swimming fishes. It has the typical head of a predator and lively and fast-moving eyes. Its mouth is wide and teethed. It has a first fin supported by spikes and a second one which is soft but strong. Its tailfin is almost two-lobed and hollow-tipped. Its body is covered with shiny silver scales, which are white on the belly and gray or even darker on the back. On rare occasions, there are dark spots on its sides, whereas there is a larger spot on the upper cover. This may consist of two scales, whereas the pre-upper cover is indented. It may reach 1 meter in length and 12-13 kilos in weight!

a nice, well timed documentary capture. i love greek sea-bass... your photo brought about memories about a dinner with my late father on the aegean coast about a year ago. we had a sea-bass too...
