Photographer’s Note
Venturing out of the beaten track, I felt always as a bizarre foreigner in India, also in small, untouristy Indian cities... Arriving out of the blue in this hamlet high up on the hills, the children (and the adults) were wondering why I had come, who I was etc... As we could not communicate with words, I smiled constantly and tried to reassure them that I was just a crazy but harmless middle aged woman (sometimes acting a bit as a clown :o)))
(NB : => If you follow this link, you’ll be able to tour a series of photos on this subject = a village in the clouds (some of them, you have already seen, others are new - some, rather FYI, but interesting IMHO) and return to the original post : => next photo : have a closer look at their expression !
As a way to enter into contact, I took lots of photos - showing the LCD to the adults was easy but for the children, it was more difficult, so I aimed at animals first and approached slowly to show the result...
(not entirely satisfied with the BG which was very dark and I struggled with the colours - some problems with sharpness too !)

Hi Cath,
well, my indian trip was just rajastan...but I had the same experience when I left the center of cities and lost myself into the tagle of untrodden ways...people looked at me very curiously, smiled, I smiled back...shot a photo and invited them to have a look at the LCD....it was a great experience.
thanks for bringing me back this memory

Hi Catherine,
A very good capture of a typical village life ...I like this kind of shots as it shows an unpretentious and simple lifestyle. Lovely shot of their expressions in the WS. Well captured and composed with very good image quality. Excellent work especially your technique in making your subject comfortable. Tfs
Cheers,

I would recognize that style - anywhere...
NOBORDERS !!!
It works like a magic for me...
I am instantly brought into the middle of the action...
I don't know, Cathy...
It looks like I'm obsessed with your style, but I see so many other things in your photographs than just the snaps of the situation in there...
Maybe - it's that magical contact you have with these people and I am able to see that in those faces... In those situation out there...
It looks like if you wait to get familiar with your subject first - and go and 'shoot' them...
Your presence among them is absolutely visible in every picture...
As I said (repeatedly) before...
You are not the observer - you are a participant...
Even more... You are one of them...
Amazing...

Grand merci. A la prochaine, avec plaisir.

Bonsoir Catherine,
voici mon milieu préferé: off the beaten track!

Philippe

hi Cath
Good capture of curious onlookers include the goat, showing daily life scene. Exposure looks fine, the shadow at entrance is normal. Interesting Note. Travel makes perfect being.

Ciao Cath!!
Ciao!

This is priceless. I love the expression. He looks so intelligent as if he really was trying to figure out what you were up to. The poses of the children behind you bears out the point you make in your note as they cluster together as if for support. Well done
Kath
