Photographer’s Note
Here is yet another picture of the Royal Mile in Edinburgh. I have uploaded another picture taken at the left of this street by the first shop. Also this is my first picture with a frame! I had some problems trying to get it to work and I don't know if I have done it the correct way. Please tell me what you think of it!
The Royal Mile has a wide range of shops. If you want to buy anything tartan from blankets to pants then this is your street! :-) This part of the Mile is closed off to cars, so don't worry, I wasn't in any danger! Interestingly, the Royal Mile is actually 1.2 miles long and that is the most frequently asked question tourists ask the traffic wardens, 'How long is the Royal Mile?'
I hope you like this picture and as always, please let me know how I can improve this.

Just observing that there are no people at all and the building’s windows are still dark I have to guess that it was taken in the early hours of the day. Correct?
Anyway, the picture is very good and I really like the stars around the street lights.

Blair,
Very nice blue hour shot with good blending of natural and artificial lighting. The scene totally devoid of people is great. The star effect around the lights works well. Your composition is fine using the street to lead the eye through the shot.

Hello Blair,
excellent perspective from your fine image taken at the most perfect time of the day,the blue hour. I don't think you could better the quality or the sharpness, they are just outstanding. It's a superb capture, with the depth of field to be impressive.Well done.

Hello Blair,
You really make good progress in this kind of work. The blue in the sky is wonderful, but i am looking more at small details such as the light on the sores and the light on the walls, and those parts are wonderful. so much detail, a perfect exposure. Depth is made by your good pov and those 30 seconds (remarkable that their are no people on the street) gave you a wonderful deep exposure...really great work.
Have a nice weekend, Henk
No luck for us with the Pig ;-)

Hi Blair,
I really enjoy your superb night series of Edinburgh and seeing a photo like this one, really makes me even happier that I'll visit Scotland again soon :-) (and Edinburgh too). Wonderful perspective along the Royal Mile with nice illuminations on the facades. Great dark blue sky as background. Thanks for sharing!

The depth of field is perfect, the light look great (just like stars), colors are wonderful and sharpness is perfect. The tower in the background is the icing on the cake. A great one!

hello Blair,
well composed shot. Love the blue sky and the colours generally. Looks like a ghost town! It is surprising just how empty the Royal Mile is at this time.

Hi Blair,
Your picture quality has come a big step forward, this street perspective is very attractive and you have measured your exposure very well. Now you can consider the next step, shoot this one after rain when the pavement is still wet, you'll see it adds value at once !
have a nice evening JY

Hello Blair! Looking at you gallery, I can say you love the blue hour. And this photo best exemplifies it. Love the sky, the lines that lead the eyes to the middle of the photo and the burst light effects. Very well composed! rgds.

Hi Blair!have a street that can somebody make inexperienced choices! Here you have very good prospect!, The distortions, that you say elsewhere, are not villains, in photo. Try low reception from the stone point left from right, perhaps you have other results.

Excellent use of diminishing linear perspective in this superb 'blue hour' shot, with a good colour contrast against the yellow lighting & superb sharpness. Tfs!

Hi Blair.
Good shots at blue hour,I think I must come around here to learn about night pictures,I like it a lot,it has the perfect colours, and very good sharpness. The composition with the diagonal lines of buildings and pavement is great, really a well taken shot.
The street was closed off to cars...,and to persons in that moment, you have the whole Royal Mile for you, this is a good place and a good moment to make your own lather party, before you go to jail of course...;)
With my best wishes,
Sonsoles.

Hi Blair, a powerfull shot, good late blue hour shot, settings are perfect and got the essence of the place with your wide angle. I just regret the lack of light on the church in background but you could do nothing about that fact !
Excellent
PS : thanks for the WS you did to me, i prefer it like that too :)

Hi Blair,
Your carefully planned composition shows perfect symmetry. Colors are delightful. I'm surprised at the lack of pedestrians, perhaps they were moving fast enough that the 30-sec exposure did not record them. Regards,

Hey Blair,
A beautiful shot, wonder why no people are on the streets. It looks even better without them - I don`t particulary like those shadows running around. :)
A fine composition, that gives the sense of wideness. The colors are very nice, so is the clarity and the sharpness.

Hi Blair,
I like very much blue hour photos, but I often arrive too late... I love wide angle compositions (and for this reason I use a lot stitching). This usage og 10-22 is really impressive with that very pleasant starbust effect Also the wide angle lens distortion is far from annoying. Congratulations, Dario.
PS The frame is ok to me: simple and not distracting from the photo itself.

Blair,
first things first. So your question regarding the frame it seems to me that you got it absolutely right. I like the difference in height and width. It provides an additional element of panorama enhancing that feeling that you did with cropping (?) the image off the top (?).
The 30s with the tight aperture gave you nice star effects as well as empty an empty mile. I guess that there were people walking around but they blurred off with the long exposure. Wonderful colors with all the shops along the street. Perfect timing of the blue hour to render a nice contrast of the colors at the shops and the night lights.

Hello Blair,
beautiful blue hour shot in a perfect location like Edinburgh. The pov is excellent, but the part I like best is the perfect exposure which allowed you to deliver great details throughout and very well balanced tones. Excellent job!

Hello Blair,
this one looks very nice (exactly like the others :-)). It reminds me a bit to my "Endless Road" because you started with the street in the corners, that made a good depth. You captured this difficult nightscene ver very well. It looks very clearly, no noise. You show me the nice colors of this street at night. The sky is also ver well done.
TFS and have a nice day,
Kris

Hello Blair!
What a fantastic blue hour shot in this beautiful Royal Mile. The exposure is just perfect and the colors are great. I also like the contrast here very much and the lanterns look like stars, very nice! You chose a very good point of view to take this photo and I like the feeling of depth and the strong diagonal lines a lot. The church in the background is a fine detail and the sharpness is great. A wonderful picture taken at the right place at the right time :-) Great!!!
Best regards and have a nice day,

Hi Blair! As I write this note, as you said, you shall probably be cruising to warm weather in Italy. I like warm days, but i miss my chilled nights in Britain, the cold wind that gets into the smallest holes of your clothes. Your shot is great, I love the Royal Mile and this wonderful city of Edimburgh. I realy miss Scotland and the kind people that leaves there.
Brazil, hot days and crystal water is waiting for you anytime!
Cheers, mate.
