[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
This is one of several shots I took wandering around Venice in the early morning, while the mist was still heavy, which gives great light effects. This was taken at the Piazzeta San Marco, and looks across the Giudecca to the Church of Santa Maria della Salute.

Technical: Scanned by ScanCafe. This scan was not so successful as some; I think the slide was not completely flat, as the scan showed some vignetting effects, which I tried to correct using Lens Distortion and some cropping. I also used Noiseware to reduce the noise. The lines on the right are guy lines leading to some structure off frame.

You were lucky with the weather, Daniel.
I causes a very special dark to light transition and this also gives depth to the image. Very well composed.

Eddie

Lovely, intriguing image, Daniel. The duomo seems almost like a mirage behind the rough planks and posts of the pier. I guess you could also crop some of the sky out for more focus on the subject. But not necessary. Excellent scanning work. Nicely done. -Hugh

Hi Daniel,
This is really very nice! I love the way you add a "danielesque" touch to your shots, they do stand out. Not like mine, which are regular travel shots. I have tried to learn POV from you and this shot just tells me why. Even after the scan, this has great quality.
Well done,
Shaeri

hello Dan,
I have no idea how the original scan looked, but I'm glad to say that the result here is absolutely great, I like a lot the softness the fog adds and how the Church seems to be bathing in milk :) excellent choice of foreground, the buzy pattern of the poles contrast nicely with the background. very, very good work, I like it a lot.

with best regards,
Kristine

Dan,
Great photo with the very sharp and vivid forground of the posts and lamps and the very soft Background. Wonderful atmostphere. Great composition. I really enjoyed it. Thanks
Way

Hello Daniel,
A real artwork, a dreamy composition,
Best regards,
Tulay

Hello Daniel,I like the rough haphazard nature of the poles in the fg contrasting with the majesty of the church in the bg.
You did a wonderful job of scanning;the light and mistiness just adds a great atmosphere to the picture.
Tfs, regards Jean.

Hi Dan,
This is a beautiful example how good scanning (despite the small problems you had) can result is a beautiful image with a stunning atmosphere. The hard contrast in front against the soft contrast Dome in the background is simply wonderful. This is a very serene image while it is taken in a very busy city...remarkable. You did really great here under the circumstances you had to deal with as you discribe in the note.
Regards, Henk

Hi DAn,
Wandering in the early morning is indeed a good idea, especially in Venezzia ! It's interesting here how the church is clear, almost irreal in rendering, the foreground is too busy and stops the eye but that is common fate there unless you can get to exclusive heights...
Have a nice day JY

hello daniel

i like this one a lot. the creamy fog of the background against the busy wooden textures of the foreground poles. and, what seems to be early rising sun hitting the fasade of the building from side. very nice indeed!

excellent job scanning it too.

with warm regards,
kristaps

Dan,
this is a view that I never get tired to see. Amaxing detail to read that this is a scanned image. I cna't see that at all. It is just perfect. The compression factor of the foreground elements against St Maria della Salute is absolutely great!
