Photographer’s Note
Evening on the Reef
Capitol Reef National Park, Utah, USA
This was taken just above Capitol Gorge, which you can see, in part, running across the middle of the frame.
I think I'm right in saying that until sometime in the 1960's this was still the main motor route through "the reef". Hard to beleive these days, as the gorge is really a dry river bed just waiting to be flooded.
Still, safely above the flash flood zone, this area provides endless possibilities for exploration.
As this the previous post, whilst very colourful, it simply looks far more coherent in this black(ish) and white version.
This is the entire frame, so those wishing for a little more sky can't have it! I'm a close cropped sky fetishist ;)
For scale, if you look very closely you might just see a little figiure in a white shirt down in the gorge, just where it bends out of view.

Hi Colin,
A fantastic snap of this 'Gorgeous' place! Yes, it demands a little more sky, but anyhow the tight frame makes everybody concentrate on those natural structures! Black and white provides it a different dimension.

Hi Colin:
Love the choice of a warm black and white here, and your lighting is great. The combination of the two gives it a bit of an Ansel Adams feel. However, the dome in the background is a bit too close to the top of the frame for my liking. If you had given it about a quarter of an inch, it would have been fantastic. Otherwise, it's a very nice shot.

I like this cropped the way it is - or framed the way it is as the case may be. I think you did a lovely job with the b&w - I think the desert begs for it. Wonderful capture!
