Photographer's Note

Same event as yesterday's posting, ie the Ganesh march in the north of Paris. Ganesh is the elephant god, son of Shiva and Parvati, known to smach away the problems in one's life. Shiva, one of the main dinity in the Hindouist pantheon is the God which embodies the "Destruction" and the "Restore" principles.

These women in beautiful green "Sari" were walking along the Ganesh chariot which is driven by dozens of torso-naked men. Most of the women, like the one on the left, carry the "Kumbam", a pot ornated with leaves and coconuts or the "katpuram chatti" which is a clay pot were some substance burns.

All along the way, a small truck was driving in front of the chariot to pour water on the road in order to purify the ground. It was quite astonishing to see that each time a motocycle or a small vehicule was able to go across the path in spite of the traffic regaulations, one guy ran with its jar to spread water on the very place where it drove. So, I guess this practice was very important.

Original picture, Contrast masking ans USM applied.
