These are from the ruins of the ancient Roman village of el Asr situated within the borders of the municipality of Shhim in the district of Shuf.
The picture was taken within a house. The gray building to the middle left is an olive press. The Roman ruins of el Asr are like another Pompeii buried under the trees.
Ουτοι εισιν οικοι τινες εν τη παλαια Ρωμαικη κωμη τη νυν ελ-Ασρ καλουμενη, τη τε κειμενη εν τοις οροις της κωμης της Σχειμ καλουμενης εν τω καζα του Σουφ εν τη επαρχια του Λιβανου Ορους. ελ-Ασρ λεγεται επιχωριως και μεθερμηνευεται αλ-Κασρου αραβιστι το τε Καστρον ελληνιστι. Η φωτογραφια αυτη εληφθη εντοσθε τινος των οικων τουτων. Ο επ’αριστερα οικος εστιν ελαιoστηριον τι. Η του ελ-Ασρ κωμη εστιν ως αλλοι Πομπηιοι, αλλα κειμενη υπο δενδροις. |
