One of the most fascinating experiences on my trip to N.Z. was the visit to the Rototua region and the Whakarewarewa Valley.
Wai-O-Tapu is a thermal wonderland!
Wai-O-Tapu is Maori and means "Sacred Waters".
Breathtaking in it’s beauty and diversity and a fantastic impression of the display and forces of Mother Nature !
In the photo you can see the "Prince of Wales Feathers" geysir, closest neighbour to the great Pohutu geysir.
The P.o.W.geysir begins as a small jet at first but gradually increases into a continuous 9 meter high column on an angle.
Pohutu, which is much bigger, erupts soon after.
For local Maori, the Whakarewarewa Valley is more than a natural wonder. Acording to tribal history, this was the place where the Goddesses of fire, Te Pupu and Te Hoata, emerged from the earth's core, inhaling and exhaling, creating geysirs, hot springs and mud pools.

Hi Dorte. I was waiting for your photos of the marvelous topographical features of N.Z. and I have not been disappointed. This is a fine capture of the place with excellent exposure. it is not easy to get the balance right between the white highlights, the bright sky and the darker areas. You have retained the details throughout the photo and in addition given us an excellent POV. Regards. Klaudio.

Hallo Dorte!
This is an interesting one indeed - and a beautiful one! For a European this must be a really great experience. I wonder how these grasses can live there - near to this water. I like the legend of the Maori much more than the scientific explanation ... ;-)
Greetings from warm and sunny Westphalia - and have a nice and sunny Sunday too!

Hello Dorte,
this is great, really impressive and spectacular picture. The point of view is superb I like the stunning details and the particular atmosphere. The lighting and colors are great with excellent sharpness and focus. Thanks for posting this one about places so far and so different from ours. Very interesting note as well.
Kind Regards.
Stella

G'day Dorte!
I'm enjoying seeing your lovely shots of the North Island, and the good notes, too - I haven't seen any of this part of New Zealand in all of my three visits! Don't you just love those beautiful Polynesian names, eh?
Bring on some more soon, please!
Best wishes,
Jeff

Hi Dorte,
Good to see you posting your NZ photos. I bet you can still remember the smell of the place ... quite distinctive :) The scene is magical ... beautifully captured and composed. Very balance placement of elements and the smoke just adds dynamism to the scene. Excellent work! tfs
Cheers,
Renier

Hi Dorte!
Wonderful shot, so sharp and full of colour and light. You did a great job with all that white, without over-exposing. When we went to Rotarua about 4 years ago, it was pouring with rain all day, the sky a miserable grey, even though it was January. Still, we did the tour and tried to take some shots, but they were nothing like this bright one. Well done.
Regards,
Andrew

Hej Dorte,
The nature here looks really great and impressive. The shapes of the rocks look beautiful and also the smoke is quite spectacular. Good composition and fine light too. Well done!

Hello Dorte,
A good composition of this fascinating landscape. I like the point of view and the off-centre placing of the geyser which is nicely framed by these interesting rock formations in the foreground and on the right. Very good natural tones and excellent clarity.

Hi Dorte,
Beautiful shot of this incredible site.
Great work
Guy

Ciao Dorte,
this is exactly the kind of picture that one expects to find on TE: an interesting place around the world. Your photo gives a clear idea of this "breathtaking spot", as you depict it on your interesting note. Thanks for posting, Dario.
