It has been since 1996 that one can see the Ganesh Lord in north part of Paris. "Ratha Yatra" (ie the Chariot festival) is one of the important religious events which takes place in India and Sri-Lanka.
This procession is the climax of a ten-day celebration for the Ganesh, elephant-headed god. Several men carry the chariot were that god takes place while priests are singing "mantras".
In Paris, it's a very nice event mainly organized by the community from Sri-Lanka which arrived in the early 80's. It is said that for such a community which had little opportunnities to practice its religion until recently, that day is a very important one. It's also a cheerful and colorful event which worths to be seen and heard. It looks like we spent few hours in India...
That boy was in the front of the march between several adults. He took is part very seriously as you can see on this shot. He was blowing in a shell at the moment the march stopped which produced a hypnotizing music.
I found this event very interesting as it stressed how family and community is important in that culture. Here in Paris, it's not everyday that we can see a whole family together from the grand-parents up to the little children. Around him, there were people from each generation.

wow it feels quite strange seeing this photogrpah which was taken in france :)
anyway yeah these ceremonies are carried out predominantly in west/ south west india i think, not so much in the north. they take effigies of ganesha to the sea.
i like the composition of this photograph
except for the part of a body that is covering the boys head on the top left corner of the frame.
great photograph otherwise

Love this portrait full of colors and great details like the bell the shell and the golden chain
But there is something disturbing me about the top left corner it looks like the boy has a dent in his head
I would crop or change the framing to fix it.
But the rest is really good
(i made a WS)

J'aime beaucoup les couleurs chaudes de la photo ainsi que le cadrage.
La Profondeur de champ est tres bien maitrisee et l'expression capturée est superbe.

This is an excelent composition and the colors are really god too. Its a little strange to see a shot like this coming out of France. One would expect something like this being shot here in India. Thanks for the note as well. Well done Steven!
