I took this photograph in Dublin while I was waiting for a new passport to be issued in time to catch a flight that evening. I like it because it raises difficult questions about the consequences and conscience of the Celtic Tiger.
I must stress that this photo was not meant to emphasise the plight of the Romanian beggar in Ireland, nor was it meant to justify the apathy of the average Irish pedestrian. It made me think of the issue from both perspectives - something that I think is severely lacking in most debates over contemporary socio-economic issues. |
