Photographer’s Note

It's been a very long time since I last posted a photo here. These days the subject of my photography tends to be "little people", so not suitable for TE. But recently, encouraged by a fellow keen photographer with little time to "play" we ventured out (little people in tow) and took some shots of this disused power station. Parts of it are in the process of being demolished, so we thought we'd better get some shots while it's still there. Personally I am hoping they will demolish the towers as that should be a spectacular photo opportunity!

A little info about the place:

Richborough power station was built at the end of the 1950's. From the 1960's to the beginning of the 1970's it burnt over 3 million tonnes of coal (most of which was mined in the nearby Kent coalfields).

In 1971 it was converted to run on oil, but oil prices rose and in 1989 the plant underwent a major refurbishment. Trials were started on an experimental new fuel called Orimulsion. This fuel caused many environmental issues and concerns so in 1996 the trial was ceased and the power station fell into disuse.

I cropped the view to improve the composition. I felt that in the original (see ws) the position of the in focus plant didn't sit well with the position of the cooling towers in the background - I hope this crop improves that a little. I found using such a narrow depth of field tricky in composing the shot....obviously out of practice after all this time!!!
