Photographer’s Note

Strategically constructed in the top of a mount, with a steep source that finishes in the river Tejo, one of more complete military monuments of the Portuguese medieval architecture is considered. It was constructed in the reign D. Sancho(1185 - 1211). Sensible necessity was born by the king D. Sancho on this side to defend the Portuguese territory of "Tejo" against the Arab onslaughts that dominated the south, forming in set with other castles the call Line do Tejo.
