| [Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note |
This is the main square in the village of Der el Amar, situated in the district of Shuf in Mt Lebanon. The village was the capital of the rulers of Mt Lebanon from the 17th century until 1918. It was the seat of the Maan family then of their successors the Shihab family. This is the second capital of Lebanon after Beirut.
The mosque dates to the 15th century and was built by Fakhruddin Osman ibn Maan gorvenor of Shuf, but it is not used except by visitors because the people of the village are Druzes and Christians. The other buildings seen in this photo date to between the 17th and 19th centuries. There is a drinkable water fountain in the middle of the square. The area is abundant with water sources. |

Hi, Alexandros,
It's a very nice photo among the one we call cultural.
I see the silhouettes of the buildings in a way remind those of the Balkans.
You must have fought with difficult light conditions.
