Castine, a small coastal village of approximately 7.9 square miles, is located on a peninsula in the East Penobscot Bay Region of Maine, 1 hour from Bangor, and 1.25 hours from Camden and from Bar Harbor. The town, on the National Register of Historic Places, consists of two distinct geographic areas referred to as the Village and "off neck," a narrow strip of land that separates the Bagaduce River on one side from the Penobscot River on the other.

More than 100 historic markers can be found in this town characterized by its 18th century architecture. Major landmarks include Fort George, built by the British in 1779 and partially restored as a state memorial, and Fort Madison, earthwork remnants built by the Americans in 1811, occupied by the British during the War of 1812 and reconstructed during the American Civil War.

The year-round population is roughly 1,300 including 700 college students attending Maine Maritime Academy. With summer residents, and visitors by land and sea, the population at least doubles from Memorial Day to Labor Day.

Tom,
This is a great shot! The colors jump out of the thumbnail and draw you attention to the photo. The blue water forms a nice backdrop for the colorful fishing boat. The lighting is great as is the sharpness and detail. The tree line forms a nice border for the waterway.
TFS,
Asa

Hello Tom,

I like scenes like this one because of the water and refreshing atmosphere present. The view is sharp and clear, composed with good colours. The boats are an interesting subject here as they draw the attention all over the image. Nice work Tom.

Roberto

Hey Tom,

Beautiful Maine, I think this shot represents the spirit of the state. Anyway, a very nice, full composition, beautiful, well saturated colors and a fine dynamic, with all those people in it.

See you around.

Hello Tom,
A nice summery atmosphere to this image in a well balanced composition. Very good colours and clarity.

Hi Tom,
A good daily life capture at the wharf ... just wonderful relax scene... like a typical Sunday outing. As usual your note is very descriptive. The colors looks very natural and I like the overall lighting and contrast. Well captured and composed. Well done! tfs

It's nice to see those summer shots appearing from those of us still emerging from winter. Excellent sharpness and the colours are strong in the full sun.

Hi Tom
Very shined shot well composed with vivid warm colors and contrasts. The blue of the water is splendid you could catch good textures of it that seems a mirror. It's lovely composition. I'm suspicious, because I adore boats. Well done. Regards, Consuelo

Hi Tom,
What a lovely spot! The colors and sharpness are excellent and you have a lot of activity in this photograph without the composition being cluttered with non-essential details. Looking at the boat in the foreground makes me want to go fishing! Excellent work!
