Photographer’s Note

Genova, Zena [ˈzeːna] in Genoese is a city and a seaport in northern Italy, the capital of the region of Liguria.
The city has a population of ca. 620,000 and the urban area has a population of ca. 890,000.

This picture was took inside the Porto Antico (the old harbour), and i was on the Molo dei Magazzini del Cotone (Cotton Warehouses Pier), that today hosts malls, multiplex, restaurants, pubs, libraries and the City of the children...

I was looking inside the bay of the old harbour, and on the middle of the picture there's the main landmark of Genova, the Lanterna, a lighthouse with the top point at 117 meters over the sea. It was built in the 1128.
It was destroyed during the war between Genova and the France in the XVI Century, and rebuilt in the 1543.

One of the Lighthouse keeper during the XV Century was Antonio Colombo, the uncle of Cristoforo Colombo.

A thunderbolt killed a lighthouse keeper in the 1481, and another one destroyed the upper part of the Lanterna in the 1602

As all the other lighthouses on the harbours the Lanterna had a sister, smallest, on the other side of the harbour, that it was destroyed centuries ago.

The entire and correct name is: "Torre della Lanterna di Genova" - Genova's lighthouse tower.

This is really a great sky, with a dramatic effect created by the colours and the silhouettes of the cranes. The boat is very well placed and there is a beautiful contradiction between the peaceful see and boats and the tourmented sky. I like it very well.

What a spectacular sky! good placement of the yacht leading the eye to the silhouetted old harbour with lovely color combination and luminosity of the dramatic sky. I also like the texture of the water...interesting note too.

This is a fascinating photograph which includes a wealth of information about this old seaport. I like your inclusion of the old lighthouse and the huge modern, high-tech loading cranes. The sailboat on the right balances out the composition beautifully! Remarkable image!

An impressive picture, filled with extraordinary realism, especially what they produce clouds in the sky

The viewpoint very appropriate, to spell out a major coastal landscape. The composition is also very balanced, and low light, does not preclude detailing every element of it. Well done.
