Photographer’s Note
This is a Moai, and there’s 600+ of them on Easter Island.
- I did get a comment on one of my previous postings, that is was hard to judge the scale of the statues, so here's a picture of me posing with one. -
Easter Island was one of the most spectacular and remote place's I've been.
Its about 2000k west off the coast of Chile and you can fly with either Quantas or Lan chile from Santiago and it will take about 5 hours.
You can of course also get there via Tahiti and again its going to take you 5 hours.
If you in this part of the world and you have the money its really is a must do/see.
Easter Island can get quite expensive "not as expensive as Tahiti though", but the people there are the most friendly I have ever had the pleasure of meeting.
Try the sea food, its well priced and was probably caught the same day.
Also you must do the tours, there a good two day tour that takes you all over the island, and it will explain everything to you.
Extra note - this is a little known fact, even though its one of the most remote populated places on earth.
NASA built an emergency runway there, just in-case the space shuttle needed to return early, it stretches the whole width of the island and its about 1 1/2 miles long.

I have been there too and I also have a photo taken by the side of that same Moai. It is indeed a spectacular place and worth a visit. Do not remember me the expensive Tahiti is. I spent a full day waiting for my connecting flight to Easter Island, after having arrived from Australia, via New Zealand!
The big difference between your trip and mine was the terrible weather I got in there. Rain, rain and rain for the entire three days!!! But it did not stop me visiting the island. It is a magical place.
For the photo, well we are not supposed to post pictures of ourselves.
Antonio
PS. I believe you should change the location on top of the photo.
