Stone carvings
 |
|
| [Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note |
Some 3000 years ago, some local Norwegians carved these
drawings in solid stone. This place just outside Stavanger, was a cultural place of great importance. They have found offerings from this era just 200 meters from this site. Some of the ships are about 1 meter in length.
Stone carvings like this are found all around the southern Norway and many are still not found. The red paint is of newer date to show the carvings, but if they find some today they are not aloud to paint them.

Hei Jonny,
Nice image of these "helle risningene." The contrast between the red paint and the stone is great. Allso the texture is very nice in this photo. TFS.

Hello Jonny,
Painted or not,it is very interesting that you can see work from people 3000 years ago!
t.f.s.and greeting,
Frieda.
Hei Jonny
I like this scene, it might not be much to those not initiated to Norwegian culture and history but I like the simplicity of the scene.
What I like gere is how well the red paint stands out and marks out the carvings.
Being this close gives a great deal of attention to the carvings, but I feel it lacks something to compare the sizes with.
Never the less, a good photo.
