Navajo Dome
Capitol Reef National Park, Utah, USA

Route 24, Hanksville to Torrey. This cuts right through Capitol Reef National Park, and when the scenery becomes so absurd that you just have to stop, you may well find yourself here, in the Navajo Dome Viewpoint car park.
Of course, this car park does not provide a particularly good viewpoint for anything - but gives you a few moments of glee at just having arrived in this fantastic place. I am grateful, therefore, to the little cloud which chose this moment to pass over the dome at, paradoxically, the moment of its illumination.

Regards
Colin

Hi Colin,

Very nicely seen and captured.. The single cloud almost looks as if it is omitting the light that is blessing the peak below. Quite and artistic presentation.

Cheers!

Great light. Great compo. What else can I say? I love it. Sweet and simple. The square crop works great.
Have a nice weekend,
Ryan

Bonsoir Colin
superbe lumière dans cette image. La roche ressort superbement. J'apprécie également la présence du nuage dans le ciel. Beau travail.

Hi Colin,
a great one, like a volcano spitting out a single cloud. Nice light spot and technically perfect.

Bonjour Colin,
très nette grace à une mise au point précise et à des contrastes de lumières élevés, cette photo montre clairement des phénoméènes géologiques qui interesseraient les experts.

Hi Colin.

Wow! How long did you wait for the cloud to be there??? The positioning of it is perfect. You waited for a good time to take this! I also really like the colours here as well.

Well done!

colin

the cloud was perfectly put in the scene and, at same time, the light was showing the main mountain, creating a fantastic compo. Beautiful image. congratulations

Hello Colin -

I guess we can say "right time, right place." Are you sure this is not Capitol Dome? Anyway, the composition and technical aspects of the image are right on the money. The cloud and the one casting the shadow make this image. Well seen and accomplished.

Thank you for sharing.

John

Fantastic light in this shot Colin. The 'dome' really does look 3-D. Excellent colour rendition (clearly Zeiss are still making fine glass). The cloud is perfectly placed - almost looks like a smoke-signal....
Great work.

Amazing shot! The light falling on the rock while the surroundings are all in shadow is fantastic, but then the topper is the fact that there is that little cloud right above - just perfect!

Hi Colin,
stunning landscape with really beautiful light and that lonely cloud is cute.
Thanks for sharing
Best regards
Romana

It looks like there is a light spot on the central mountain, as the nearby ones are darker. Then the lonely cloud on top of it properly fills the blue sky. I have not seen Capitol Reef, unfortunately.
Cheers Stefano

Hi Colin,

Your latest upload set me off on a discovery trip through your US nature gallery with so many great shots. I'm not familiar with your theme and make completely different pictures, but what a wonderful picture trip this was!

If I had to pick a favourite, it would be this one, because the little cloud adds a touch of poetry, especially in combination with the Navajo connection. A divine smoke signal?

Great work, thanks for sharing it here.

Benny

Beautiful shot Colin. Great idea to include that cloud into the composition. Capitol Reef National Park seem as really interesting place to visit. TFS. Lucie

Hi Colin,
you managed well the great light.
A beautiful shot (as many of your gallery)!
A smile
