Piazza Grande of Perugia (now called Piazza IV Novembre).
This is perhaps one of the "most crowded point of view" of Italy and for sure the "most often seen picture of Perugia". There must be a reason why...
On the right you can see the Fontana Maggiore, built in 1278 according to plans by Brother Bevignate, who designed two polygonal and concentric marble basins surmounted by a bronze bowl. This fountain is famous all over the world because of the elegance of its lines, the harmony of its form and the value of its decorations consisting of 50 bas-reliefs and 24 statues by Nicola and Giovanni Pisano. The panels of the basins represent various personages, saints, symbols and scenes referring to the city's history, and to middle ages imagination.
Behind the Fontana you can see the Palazzo dei Priori, a superb expression of the city's municipal spirit, built between the 13th and the 15th centuries. Its austere mass, completely closed in a vest of square stone and only slightly embellished by two rows of beautiful Gothic windows with three lights which run along its longer side, stands on the square like an enormous bastion.
In front of you Corso Vannucci, a crowded, vibrant street full of shoppers and elegantly dressed people strolling up and down the street or, as they say in Perugia, "che fanno una vasca".

Technical Notes
People strolling around are the hardest problem of this kind of night shots. The human presence according to me gives a pleasant touch of life to a composition, but you have to cope with long exposures and "ghost effect".
In this case I captured multiple exposures and selectively blended them via PTGui. Using the multiple layers .psd file created by the tool, I was able to rub annoying ghosts out, while leaving on the picture still people. The process is quite simple and not very time consuming, at least for an 800 pixel output.

Ciao Dario, very fine night shot. Lots of lovely detail & good colour. Your work on keeping the blurred people has paid dividends with just the couple of groups walking up the street disturbing the stillness.

Excellent work.

Best regards, Roberto

Complimenti Dario,
davvero questa foto è bellissima!
Molto ben fatta.

CeccoPhoto!!

Hi Dario, you captured a nice light in this photo. It is also very clear and sharp, a great use of the depth of field.

I prefer "ghots" because they express the movement and the life, but I know this is a personal sense of expression in photography.

My compliments, you always manage the light in a soft way but clear and full of details.

Ciao Dario,
Ciao e grazie,

Igor
