Photographer’s Note

As me and my friend were sitting on the deck, this thunderstorm over Atlantic ocean was offering a show of spectacular beauty.

Outer Banks is an ideal place to rest and play by the sea, whereas immense cottages on pillars are aligned for kilometers, on this low and sandy string of islands, whose Eastern end is the Cape Hatteras.

On the ocean side, people benefit from the dunes and the impeccable beaches at two steps of their cottage. On the side of Pamlico Bay, its the mecca for windsurfers, one of the most popular spot on the east coast.

Hello Andre,

Absolutely astonishing sunrise (if you are facing east at Outer Banks). The composition, colors and resolution are all first rate, those flashes of lighting in the horizon adding a special mystique to the photo. I plan to make some room among my favorites to place the gorgeous image in their. You've hit a clear home run with this photograph.

This could easily pass as a painting. I love how the lightning has illuminated the clouds. This looks so cool. The little lightning bolts in the distance were a nice surprise when I opened the thumbnail. The water looks really cool too, the colors are incredible. Nice work here all around.

Hello Andre,

This is a terrific sight, a wild ocean tempest flaring up over the Atlantic Ocean. It is the stuff Hemmingway wrote about. I like how the dark, moody waters are illuminated at centre by the strobes of lightning. To produce this much light over 6 seconds, this must have been a very active cell. If I had had a camera at the time, I would have loved to have taken a similar photo of a storm like this, over Ayers Rock. That was an event I will never forget. It is awesome to see some darker clouds here silhouetted against the brighter illuminated cumulonimbus at the back. Sensational!

Hi Andre,
I love the clouds glowing from within (beauty from the inside out) giving us a dramatic image together with the lightning bolts. The two different shades of blue strips on the top with the sky and the bottom with the water balance out the shot well, and the layers of dark and light incredible cloud are simply spectacular. I can just imagine the feeling sitting there and seeing this scene unfolding. A great capture!

Parfait instant ! Je suis impressionné par l'effet 3D que tu as magnifiquement capté ! Ce qui est captivant, c'est la lumière qui vient de l'intérieur même de ce cumulo-nimbus et qui contraste avec les nuages sombres ! Je trouve l'image vraiment superbe et ces éclaires forment la cerise sur le gateau !
Une excellente prise de vue !

Bonjour André,

Ce qui est fantastique dans cette image est que je ne comprends pas vraiment ce que c'est... En effet, normalement, les rayons du soleils devraient frapper l'eau de manière complètement parallèle... or dans les rayons de lumière, il me semble y avoir plein d'orientations différentes... Je penche donc pour des éclairs puissants... Le temps de pose semble me donner raison...

Une chose est sure, tu es sacrément matinal ! Ou alors tu bosses la nuit, ou encore tu rentres juste d'une soirée particulièrement coriace...
Ici j'apprécie les couleurs de ta compo, par contre j'aurai une question : Comment fait-on pour prendre en photo des éclairs ? Est-ce une priuse en rafale et après c'est le coup de bol, ou bien es-tu équipé d'un genre de capteur qui déclencherait qu'en situation de colère des Dieux ?

Just finnised my email to you ;-)
A picture i did not expect from you taken such a long time ago. Wonder why you kept it so long because it's worth showing it. Some might say it's to far away for the thunderlight, true, but see here those clouds. Wowwww, that's what's it all about, that thunderlight is just the cream on the cake which makes it complete, but i am really impressed by that cloud formation...stunning..!!!

Salut André, ce genre de photo me fait froid dans le dos. Les nuages viennent lècher la mer de s'y près que les éclairs semblent minusculement courts!
Les couleurs en ressortent encore plus contrastées et les nuages plus inquiètants...

Salut le cousin du loin,
Valait d'ailleurs mieux etre loin de cette scene pour pas prendre une petouille dans le 5D ! Il y a beaucoup de (mauvaises) photos de nuages sur TE, mais celle la joue dans une autre ligue, les contrastes de lumiere y sont tres forts, intenses meme, c'est quasiment divin, et au niveau de la mer on peut voir qu'il n'y aura pas de pb pour brancher un appareil electrique... Tu nous clones un petit bateau a cet endroit et tu peux classifier cette photo sous "Bermudes", personne n'y trouvera a redire ;-)

la lumière de ce nuage,ainsi que son relief,sont tout simplement impressionants!Les éclairs captés au bon moment,sont le petit détail qui finit la beauté de la photo!J'adore le ciel bleu qui se reflète dans la partie brillante de la mer!Ces couleurs sont étonnantes car,pendant un orage,on a plutôt l'habitude de voir du noir ou du gris!Et là,c'est bleu,et le paysage en devient irréel!C'est superbe!

Hi Andre,
I've seen quite a few impressive lightnings but I've never seen something like that before! Light of the flash pushes through thick layer of moisture illuminating those clouds inside out. And creating a very clear 3D picture of it. View also has strong vignetted impression which in no doubt is a result of this special illumination.

Pour une fois, j apprecie les forums qui m ont permis de decouvrir cette photo.
Exactement le type de photo pour lesquelles je serai pret a me damner (ouais, enfin, on se comprend) pour pouvoir les faire.
Nature sauvage, eclairage qui dechire, originalité.
Allez, encore une moitié de vie pour progresser ;-)
