Photographer’s Note

A Portuguese nobleman named Duarte Coelho was the first colonizer to set eyes on the seven hills of Olinda. He arrived there in 1535 and those were his first words: " Oh! Linda ...
Oh! What a beautiful (linda) situation for a village!"
The combination of the two first words, an interjection( Oh ) and an adjective (linda) had formed the name of the city.
That day, Duarte Coelho- who had been assigned by the King of Portugal as the responsible authority for that region in the State of Pernambuco- was probably at the place known today as Alto da Sé, the highest hill in the city (from where I took that picture yesterday).
Olinda is so close to Recife (about 10 Km northern/ aprox.6 miles))that it seems almost like a district of the Capital and once you go to Recife you should also visit Olinda for the beauty of its colonial houses.
In that image you can see two, among its numerous old churches: on your left side, Carmo Convent and on your right side St. Peter Church.
