Photographer’s Note

(Chowla Thanda village)
(A slightly noisy photo – I used the blur tool only a little bit on the skin of the women). ... It is not that they were dreaming or contemplating something, but they did not dare looking while posing ; the neighbour on the right seemed a bit more relaxed and amused (but then, she did not know that I was taking her photo in the same time, found out only later).

Nagendrama (in yellow) and her brother frequent the nearby school, their parents (mother on the right) are illiterate. These are day labourers living in a tiny mud house ; they are not Lambadas as this is a mixed village. I saw inside one of the 2 bare rooms on a simple shelve many representations of all sorts of various religions and gods side by side (Muslim, Christian and Hindus) : they are not Muslims or Christians but they like to have all the faiths on their sides - a wise decision, safer to get all the best chances together if possible !

In front of them, the little crowd that was following us everywhere in the village, - this was the beginning of our tour, later it grew much bigger…

A very simple photo, dedicated to Branko Vasiljevic (Vasa) who wrote once jokingly that "women are always more interesting that men" (in photos, that is), and who calls himself a "feminist man".
