Photographer’s Note

I was quietly doing cross-country skiing when a group of horses appeared suddenly on the path.
The camera was in my backpack and I had just the time to shoot.

The snow covered nature does it look like an infrared photo.

The intricate fine detail without oversharpening is the strength of this image. Very fine choice for BW processing. BW is one of my favorite genres of photography.

Something you might consider(if you use Photoshop) is to add a 'Selective Color' Adjustment layer to make 'black' more black. I can see from your border that you don't have a 'true' black point (0,0,0) set for this picture. Doing so would make the composition stand out more than it already does.

As is... it is a very, very nice composition.
