In the beginning of the 17th century King Christian IV planned a new garden a couple of kilometres from the centre of Copenhagen. But influenced by the new trends in other royal courts in Europa he decided to build himself a summer residence, Rosenborg. With inspiration from Versailles the King even installed his own private bathroom and what was called "the King's secret room".

Today Rosenborg is right in the centre of the city and opened to public. The main attraction is the crown jewels and the crown regalia which are part of the Royal Danish Chronological Collections (De Danske Kongers Kronologiske Samlinger) including everything from paintings, chinaware to silver. The Rosenborg Park is called the King's Garden, Kongens Have, and very popular oasis to Copenhageners and visitors.

Copenhagen

Copenhagen was a trading and fishing center by the early 11th cent. It was fortified (1167) by Archbishop Absalon and was chartered (1254) by the bishop of Roskilde. The city was twice destroyed by the Hanseatic League but successfully resisted (1428) a third attack. Copenhagen replaced Roskilde as the Danish capital in 1443. The city exacted tolls from all ships passing through the Řresund until 1857. Having resisted (1658–59) a Swedish siege, Copenhagen was relieved by the Dutch. In 1660 peace between Denmark and Sweden was negotiated there. The city had expanded considerably in the 16th and 17th cent. as its trade grew, and it continued to develop in the 18th cent. as industries such as textile making and tobacco processing brought added prosperity.
Copenhagen became involved in the war between Napoleonic France and England in the early 19th cent. The news that Denmark, by a secret convention, was about to join Napoleon's Continental System and to join in the war on England led the British government to decide to send an expeditionary force to seize the Danish fleet, which already had been mauled (1801) in the battle of Copenhagen. When the Danes refused to surrender, the British landed troops in 1807 and severely damaged Copenhagen by bombarding it.
The city recovered quickly after the Napoleonic Wars, and its industrial base grew rapidly in the 19th cent. In World War II, Copenhagen was occupied (1940–45) by the Germans, and its shipyards were bombed by the Allies. The city itself was only slightly damaged, and it retained the charm and design that had resulted in its being called “the Paris of the North.”

Hello George,
A splendid composition of this very impressive brick built castle. Good point of view and I like the inclusion of the statue in the foreground whose tones contrasts nicely with the red bricks. Superb colours and clarity.

Szia Gyuri!
Igazán remek felvétel a szerintem inkább kicsit esetlenül bájos, mint igazán nagyvonalúan elegáns palotáról. Jól mutat az álmatag oroszlán az előtérben, és most még az időjárás is kegyes volt.
Üdv
Laci

Szia Gyuri!

I like the mix of red and green, with the bricks and the roofs. The statue in the foreground also plays with the same tones. A nice catch.

George,
Nice architecture catch, with great sharpness and beautidul colors and light management.
I like a lot,
Regards,
JB.

Hi George!

Perfect architecture photo, with great "respect" for the lines of this impressive building that doesn't seem ready to "fall" like in many architecture photos because of the very common perspective distortion.(I don't know if you understand what I mean). Besides that, a simple but excellent composition, fantastic vivid colours and amazing sharpness and clarity on the photo! Congratulations!

Hercules

Hello George,
a castle with astonishing architecture, since high on a restricted basis. Very good framing including water and the garden. Very quite carried out.
Have a nice day

Szia George,
good frontal view including the lion which is very well taking all symmetry to a good outcentered composition. The good details of the facade are well presented by the good contrasts.

Bonne soirée.
