Photographer’s Note
In the hills about 40 km from Araku valley (Vizag area, north AP), I spent a wonderful day in a deep, dense fog... It was raining for the whole afternoon, in the end only my torso remained more or less dry, never was so soaking wet for so many hours, but it was great fun.
Specially early in the morning, all the persons met in this small village (Dhumku, where I rented a hut for 2 days) were like surprising, surreal apparitions, suddleny there and quicklly disappearing in the fog : absolutely enchanting, even if uncomfortable !
But I need to learn more about PP, having all a series of photos from that day. On purpose, I left a bit of the haze but this version certainly does not satisfy me entirely... Your advice is welcome, what do you think of the light here ?
(I've posted another photo of that same little group on TL, which is even more hazy because a bit farther... ).

Hello Catherine,
Wonderful catch from the back..!!I love the fog here with the children looking at you..!!sad to see how they r walking on this wet road with bare feet..!! I liked the tiny one very much wearing just one piece of a top possibly of her elder sis..!!
Liked the shot in TL as well..they are like getting engulfed in fog there..nice sequel to this one..!!
Good take..I appreciate your perception about rural India..!!

Hi Catherine
I like the backward glances of the 2 girls, which establish a personal connection with the viewer. The fog adds mood & atmosphere, to this superb daily life scene. Tfs!

Hi Catherine, Lovely shot. You raise an interesting question regarding the composition. I tried cropping it differently but don't think that it was improved really. I like the light, with the haze starting to envelope the group as they walk away from you, and echo ChrisJ's comment about the backward look. cheers, Steve

merhaba

Hi Catherine,
The fragrance of innocence is oozing out from this lovely snap! The elderly lady guiding the kids into the realm of fog - a symbolic representation as well.

Hi Catherine
Really nice expression you have captured here. The backwards glances really make the image. The color really contrasts against the fog bringing the scene to life. Well done.

Hi Catherine,
Oeh, I always like to post process a bit on other people's work! Have a look at the workshop and let me know what you think :-).
I saw the TL posting as well, but I do prefer this one! I actually don't mind the haze here on the people! I removed it more in the workshop, but it's not necessarily better - result would have been better when working with the original size though.
Greetings!
Dennis

Hola Catherine,it is an image that for yes alone is already charming, the natural and daily scene is excellent, on the light I will say to you that perhaps he should lack a point of darkness, as for the framing I think that the right part remains him, to be more explicit have done a WS.
In any case congratulations for the good work.
Un abrazo desde España.

Hi Catherine!
Yesterday and today I did some "photoshopping" with your image ,but only because you asked for.I like it as it is.It`s a nice daylifeshot and you post it as you and your camera have seen this nice scene.I like how two of the girls look back to something for them exotic,a woman with a black machine in front of her head.
I post my ws but I have a german edition and con not translate the tools and the steps I did.
By the way,for me Henk(Floydian)now on vacation in Cambodia is the master of postrocessing;he helped me a lot.

These two girls looking back at you, cath...
These two faces are making the whole world of difference between 'yet another shot from behind' and a photo like this...
It's incredible, how the small details can separate the good from not so good...
From a great photography to a mediocre one...
Obviously - you see that 'thin red line' quite sharply, Cath.
And you obey the rules of engagement quite skillfully.
Foggy charm a'la IXUS... Great !!!

Hello Catherine,
I came upon ths via a forum thread asking for people's favourite pictures of 2008 and I can understnad why this was chosen. You use the word enchanting and that is a perfect description of this photo. The mist, the colours and the backward glance of the children make a special composition of a special moment.

Bev
