Photographer’s Note

A view of Nervi, took saturday after the lunch from the wonderful "passeggiata" a pedestrian trail that runs over the sea from Nervi to Bogliasco.

Nervi today is a neighborhood of Genova, but it was a Municipality just to the 1926, when under the fascism thousands of small "comuni" merged in the bigger ones.

Nervi was probably settled by Celts thousands of years ago, and the name maybe cames from "NEAR AV INN", the motto on the city coat, that means "close to the sea".

Nervi is well know from centuries for the fantastic weather and the warm temperature all around the years.
It's the third location of whole Liguria (and for the whole North Italy) after Pegli (another neighborhood of Genova) and Ospedaletti.

In the middle of the picture, and in the middle of the small harbour there is the horrible tensile structure of the swimming pool stadium of Nervi.
That's is typicall of all the small neighborood and city all along the eastern Liguria, where waterpolo is the main sport.
All the villages and cities have their prope swimming pool with a small stadium and different teams of waterpolo.

The Italian Championship of Waterpolo was and is dominated from more than 90 years by Eastern Liguria teams.
Pro Recco (Recco is located 2 kilometers before Camogli and 10 from Genova) won totally 21 champioship.
Andrea Doria Genova won 8 titles.
Rari Nantes Camogli won 6.
Genoa Pallanuoto won 4.
Sportiva Sturla won 1 (Sturla is another one neighborhood of Genova).

That swimming pool was used as location in the 1989 Nanni Moretti movie: Palombella Rossa.
