Girl Getting Dressed for Festival
 |
|
| [Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note |
A brief moment captured during the chaos of a major festival in Tokyo. One of many small children dressed up for the day.
The major photographic challenge was to remove the distracting throngs of people on this street from the frame to simplify the composition. This mother/daughter vignette was short, and the background was only free of feet and shadows for a brief moment. |

The colors of the girl's kimono and the mother's pink shirt are brought out even more vividly against the backdrop of the grey ground. There are a couple of spots that could be spotted out at the top right.
The subject matter is interesting but the back lighting takes the life from the little girl's face. Try some fill flash in PS.
I love this natural posture. its so alive and the angle you took it makes it powerful. I would use a little more contrast though then darken just a bit, to make the colorful areas more vivid.

Too bad we you couldn't show the mother's face. The angle of her body unfortunately crisscrosses that of her daughter, causing an unbalanced composition.
Try using Gaussian blur to put everything out of focus except the young girl.
Brilliant moment you have captured, and I appreciate the difficulty in giving the impression of a peaceful moment - rather than one surrounded by a bustling city crowd.
I love the contradiction between the girl's traditional kimono, and the Hamtaro figures she is carrying.
