Hey, this was from the last day I was in Sofia, Bulgaria. I distinctly remember I had a train to catch in about two hours, but my traveling partner insisted on seeing this cathedral (safe to say we had no idea where it is). In the end we did find it, but I was - although imposing as ... - more impressed with the flee market beside it. More in my taste.

"The St. Alexander Nevsky Cathedral (Bulgarian: Храм-паметник „Свети Александър Невски“, Hram-pametnik „Sveti Aleksandar Nevski“) is a Bulgarian Orthodox cathedral in Sofia, the capital of Bulgaria. Built in Neo-Byzantine style, it serves as the cathedral church of the Patriarch of Bulgaria and is one of the largest Eastern Orthodox cathedrals in the world, as well as one of Sofia's symbols and primary tourist attractions.

The Alexander Nevsky Cathedral is a cross-domed basilica featuring an emphasized central dome. The cathedral's gold-plated dome is 45 m high, with the bell tower reaching 50.52 m. The temple has 12 bells with total weight of 23 tons, the heaviest weighing 12 tons and the lightest 10 kg. The interior is decorated with Italian marble in various colours, Brazilian onyx, alabaster, and other luxurious materials. The central dome has the Lord's Prayer inscribed around it with thin gold letters."

From Wikipedia

It really looks much taller than 50 and something meters.

Oh yeah, and I didnt notice it before, but I think The Moon is seen in the background.

Did not change much. Sharpness, some colors, contrasts, wanted to define the details, since the sky is rather dull.

Notes and thoughts appreciated. Enjoy.

Lep pozdrav

Zivjo Miha,

no, zdej bom pa lazje na tekocem s tvojimi prispevki, ker si se znasel na seznamu. :) Hvala! :) No vseeno naj komentiram tole: res je ogromna. :)

Lep dan ti zelim,
Jeri

A clean, wisely cut picture.
I told you you are good at architecture!
(Not many cars in Sofia, hey? They have the bad habit of show themselves in my pictures of churches or other building. I've no patience to wait...)
Ciao.

Hi Miha,
Great view of this impressive cathedral in this almost symmetrical composition. The sunlight brings out the beautiful facade very well and you captured it with a good quality and great sharpness. The moon is a lovely detail. Thanks for sharing!
Regards,
Lars

Hello Miha very nice architecture shot, clear and sharp with a high level of detail. I like your composition and that you included the two people in the image that give the sense of how tall the Cathedral is. Greetings,
Kostas.

Yes Miha, it is huge!
I was also quite impressed by this beautiful church, but unlike you, I had the sun from behind the building, which is why i chose a different angle when i was there, this one depicting the entrance is quite good.
Only it looks a tad tilted.
