Photographer’s Note
This dolphin was performing in Madrid Zoo & Aquarium.
The Zoo Aquarium in Madrid is an exciting day out for the family. It incorporates several outdoor areas with an interesting variety of animals, together with an amazing aquarium, full of colour.
We have given detailed information about how to get there, and what times the zoo is open. There are also useful tips and hints to help you plan your trip, like the special farm area for the kids!
The Zoo Aquarium in Madrid is a great day out for the family. It stretches over some 20 hectares and can hold up to 3,000 visitors in one go – making it extremely popular. The fact that in can be accessed by a short trip on the metro makes it even more appealing as a daytrip destination.
The zoo comprises all the animals that you would expect, and in addition there is an aquarium that specialises in tropical marine life. The array of fish is bound to keep you riveted for quite a while. There is also an amazing selection of coral, which is said to be one of the most impressive in Europe.
More entertainment is in the form of a dolfinarium that can hold up to 3,000 people. The dolphin show is very popular, and the dolphins are quite impressive. The children are bound to love them.
There are more than 500 species of animals from 5 different continents in the zoo, and over 200 species within the aquarium. You’re bound to see something that you haven’t seen before!
There’s the chance to get up close to many animals in the farm (La Granja). Several species of domestic animals, such as donkeys, are kept there as part of a program to educate children about the workings of a farm. The children seem to get more excited about these more familiar animals, just because they can stroke them, than they do about the wild animals!
Take a look at the WS to see another performance.
