Photographer’s Note

The picture is taken one early december morning down by the Bagmati river in Kathmandu. The old lady is taking a rest, while leaning against the load, which she will later be carrying to the market-place.

I like the strange radiant beauty of her wrinkled face and crippled hands, the toughness and roughnes of her frail looking face, and the quiet desperation which eminates from it all.

The quality of the picture lies in the motive it self, rather than technique or editing. I've darkened the picture a little, and added some more contrast to accentuate the wrinkles and lines in her face.
