| Bagan, established in 1st century AD, stayed a powerful center for centuries until it got invaded by Mongols in 1287. During the reign of King Anawratha (1044-1077)as Theravada Buddhism flourished in Bagan royalty as well as ordinary citizens began to build religious edifices as an expression of their Buddhist belief. A Myanmar rhyme puts the number of pagodas to 4446, where as a 1993 count by the Archaeology Department recorded 3122 religious building. After the 1975 earthquake which destroyed many pagodas, nowadays a restoration project is under way and more than 2000 edifices are back up. Regardless of the numbers, the stiking moment is when one flies over Bagan and is not sure if what one sees is a mushroom field or many large and small temples and pagodas spread within 42 sq kilometers!! |

Hi,
The ruin seems to be quite photogenic as I can guess from the portion you have shown in the composition. The slanting shadow looks nice on the brick wall. The black shadow at bottom left portion feels slightly out of proportion for the frame. May be a longer proportion would help.
