The international media is full of amazing information about the huge development that is taking place in Dubai at the moment, from the images of the Palm development to the 300 man-made islands of "The "World", built in the waters of the Arabian Gulf. Along with these amazing properties, we can now add the world's tallest building....the "Burj Dubai". It recently passed the 600 metre mark and is still not complete....no one really knows what the final height will be as it has been a closely guarded secret for many years.
While I was at the camel pens, some weeks ago, I took this image from about 5 kms away, and you can clearly see the difference between the existing skyscrapers on Sheik Zayed highway and this new mega-structure. By the way those towers surrounding the Burj Dubai are at around 60 stories high. The dusty look surrounding the buildings is in fact dust, "kicked up" by the multitude of heavy machinery in the area.

Howdy Grant!
Amazing point of view. Beautiful perspective. Wonderful panorama. Wonderful cityscape. Great effect. Very good picture. Hi Fi!
TFS!

Grant,
Lovely note and a lovely shot. I like the distant view with the clarity in the f/g and the gradient effect caused by the dust in the b/g. The shot is nicely composed and framed and it's even better that you kept the Burj to the lft instead of the center.

Very impressive photo. It looks like a snapshot from a science fiction film. Thanks for sharing,
Erkin.

Hello Grant
Very interesting urban view, I hate this kind of place but your picture is very impressive.
Well done
Regards
Claude

Hi Grant,
crazy, a good document of this type of vanity fair. The tower is well placed.
Cheers Chris

Hello Grant,
I am impressed by your note and also by the height of this building, it's all most the dream of Frank Lloyd Wright (of a building tall 1 mile) coming true.
Nice composition,
TFS

As much as I love citties like NYC or Chicago where the citties grew over so many decades and where you can see the changing of architecture stile - so much I hate these places without any history. Just a symbol of money. But your capture is impressing. Great POV. Nino

Hey Grant

An impressive sight, captured perfectly. Nice composition, catching the most of the skyscrapers in the focus, and of course also the Burj, as a comparison to the others, lovely colors and sharpness.

Enjoy

Grant: I must say, a very 'constructivist' shot - almost proletarian or something from a futuristic movie like Bladerunner. Altogether a fine shot with almost too much detail to entertain the eye. regards, c

Maan, it must be a good 10° cooler at 600m., I must go back there when this is completed, because this structure is just too outlandish to miss, normally I hate, no, DESPISE dust, but in this case the low level haze it gives has a fitting construction site atmosphere.

Hello Grant,
Your photo looks like a science fiction movie set (using some of Caleb's analogy). The way that this huge skyscraper dwarfs the sixty story buildings surrounding it is surreal looking to say the least. This is a fascinating photograph which belongs in the Ripley's "Believe ot or Not" section of the Trek Earth themes. Outstanding work!

Hello Grant,
Estonishing atmosphere and mood.
These towers going out of nothing in the dusty landscape are somewhat fantastic and unreal and look like a sci-fi movie set. Nice work, thanks for bringing it out for us !
Have a nice day.
Regards, Christian

Hi Grant,

Nice. Haha, no one really knows what the final height will be. Funny. Above 600 metres. That is just insane. Just imagine that in the future we will get buildings that are a kilometer high or higher! Insane. But what a nice take it makes!

Greetings, Dennis

a very romantic presentation of urbanscape. i like the dreamy atmosphere of broken dreams

Hi Grant,
Excellent capture passing the accurate magnitude of this architecture. How much to this pollution or thermal inversion well we are accustomed here in Brazil. Great work. Regards

Incredible Grant. Dubai still surprise me everyday! I guess is the worlds largest construction site on the world. I've seen a TV-program about the touwer but your photo show me how high indeed it is.

That's a very inptessive building. i think you've captured the city scape quite well here. The smog hanging above the city is clearly visible obscuring most of the buildings as if trying to suffocate them. The lucky surviver is coming out on top. Perhaps that was the reason behind building this gigant.

Hello Grant,
It amazing to see how Dubai city transform to the modern city so fast, thought the landscape not yet completed by the tallest building in the world i can feel the athmosphere by your picture. The dust around really make it more dramatic. I will waiting this complete city landscape with the clear blue sky, hopefully.

Hi Grant.

Simply impressive... is not necessary say "I like it" or something similar.
Your composition is good and enhances this impressice skyline.

Regards.

Hey Grant,

Sorry for not visiting your gallery in a while, I have missed out on lots by the looks of it. I have been following the progress of the Burj on various websites; this is one of the first photos I have seen that shows it in comparison to other buildings. It is monstrous, absolutely incredible. I would think that it will hold records for quite some time. I think clarity could be better here, sure, but the hazy look really makes the point that this is a desert environment and there is substantial dust in the air. What an incredible place, there is nowhere else quite like the UAE.

Matt

Hi Grant

I am just speechless!.. Perfect subject, perfect photo, perfect post processing. I guess the photos like that give us an inspiration to go around the world and to try to see places by ourselves. Thanks.

Dmitri

Hi Grant, I just find this area so incredible. To be honest, probably a little more than 5 years ago, if I had to describe Dubai, it would have been as a spot somewhere in the Mid-East where there was some mining for oil. I was so naive, (I think along with half of the rest of the world). Now we hear about it all the time, and keep seeing construction such as this, that just blows me away. This is a great shot you have of the "Burj Dubai" It is an excellent composition, truly showing the "Grandeur" of the place. The dust from construction just adds to the sense of frantic activity being carried out here.

Thanks, John

nice photo

Hi Grant,
The haze from the dust looks very interesting here. Good capture of the towering buildings.
Well done,
Shaeri

Bonjour Grant,
Philippe

Absolutely amazing!
Marc

Grant - How surreal to mention "camel pens" and "the world tallest building" in the same sentence. Two opposites from two different centuries. One has to ask "What is the point?"
Regards Colin

Grant,

This is one amazing sight- reminds me of some Star Wars screen.

Stunning photo!

Best regards from Geneva

P.S. My partner is from Cape Town

Hi Grant,
Impressive photo indeed. I can just imagine how impressive the view will be once it is done.
Thanks for the informative note too.

Maybe Scotland is unspoilt, but this place is amazing too. What human can build....
Horizon falling little bit to left.
Except that, well done!

Many Regards Jiri

Hi Grant,
What a huge arcitectural constraction. You represented the whole with good compositon. Dust around the buildings gives richness to the scene.

Hello Grant,
The skyscraper Burj Dubai seems to incline left obviously. The composition that presents uneasiness to the future is excellent.
Have a nice day, Hisashi
