There was a Gelateria in Siena. It was not far from the school. Not far from the church either. There was a pedestrian passage just there, in front of the wooden door, I think it was number 125. The Gelateria was open from 11 in the morning and it would stay open as long as there were people around wanting to sweeten its tongue.

Once a week, the red truck would deliver the new flavours. One new every time. You never knew what would come next. The delivery guy was always so kind with everyone, and he was treated like a god because HE delivered the goods. So, when you were hearing that sound of a beaten truck, you knew he was coming and everyone would run to know what he was bringing this time. What exotic and fresh flavour had he invented in the last week. Sometimes he would stay with us to lick a gelato with us, explaining how he got his new idea.

Someday, somehow, someone got jealous of all this success. A man came up the day of the delivery. He was wearing a tuxedo and a hat and was putting his nose high up in the air. He asked to talk to the delivery man. The next thing we know is that the Gelateria would not open anymore. The delivery man left and never came back. He even left his truck that he loved so much.

2 months later, before the end of summer, a new Gelateria opened under the shadow of Torre del mangia. The tourists would go there and it was always full of customers. But none of us would go. None of us even moved the truck or the Gelateria sign. the good times were gone.

Marc - I like the details in the picture which ouses atmosphere of Italy. The brickwork is well captures and added considerably to the images appeal. Sad Story.
Regards Colin

Aw. Even before reading your note, this cute red truck jumped on me even from the thumbnail as one of the most charming characters I've seen lately. I can't believe I'm saying this, but it's true. There is something so human about it, simply, or maybe I watched too many cartoons.
As for the note...it's like from S.Leone's 'Once Upon a Time in A.' :)
lovely work

Salut Marc,

As-tu bouffé de la gelato au pot? LOL!

Charles

Hi Marc,
beautiful picture, I love the red and the brick wall :) and the framing is great :)
have a nice day*

Hello Marc,

You have beautiful collection of nice pictures.

This cute lorry is very contrasting and in good details with nice vibrant colors.

Regards,
Jusni

What a great note, Marc. Sure that this image have a diferent taste after reading the delicious story. I'm thinking about the new exotic flavours...If you didn't copy this from any book, you should be a writer. It made me think of the dreamy places that I visited - one day you return there and everything is changed...A Spanish traveller I met one day said to me: you can only be happy one time in a paradise place. What can I say about this photo? It isn't an exciting landscape nor a street scene with people, but I like it very much. It's very well presented, technically seems very good, the bricked background is beautiful and makes a nice combination of colors with the truck that is perfectly sharp and I love the lighting going from shadow to light on the bricks. It's not going to be so apreciated as the other posts, but I congratulate you for it.
Have a funny weekend,
ricardo

I love the lighting, the way it fades from bright to dark top to bottom. Composition is not optimal though with the vehicle in front of the door, I guess there wasn't much you could do about that other than shoot from an angle but that clearly isn't the effect you were looking for.

reading your note makes me wanna watch an italian movie right now... someone -may be you- should make a movie about this gelateria and the red truck i think... a beautiful concept marc, full of mind and soul... cheers...

Bonsoir Marc,

Une belle image de Sienne. Ah queste geletarie ! Beau jeu de coulers autour du rouge ( camionnette, briques, portes) Manifestement cela attire l'oeil. Bonne soirée,

Roger

Dear Marc!
Amazing car.
Nice scene. Good point of view.
Original picture.
TFS!

Bonjour Marc! I had to choose this one, it is summer, it is warm, the sky is blue and whatelse is better than a little ice cream as a treat after a good meal. I really love the business idea of this little truck bringing a new flavor with each delivery and it would make a wonderful summer movie full of passion and full of sadness after this little truck could not come back and left everybody in huge disappointment. I have an icecream machine and sometimes I make my own icecream but it never comes as close as the gelatis you get in Italy. I have no idea what their secret is but it must be the passion they put into the cream or milk, and the way they play with the flavors. Your story deserves a hundred points and together with this wonderful picture it makes the whole thing a true treat. Excellent photo work, it has a modern approach despite the old Siena walls. Barbara.
