Quarry Bank Mill
 |
|
| [Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note |
| Quarry Bank is a cotton textile mill built in the Cheshire countryside, in 1784, by Samuel Greg originally of Belfast. Sited on the banks of the River Bollin to be able to utilise a water wheel to drive the newly developing machinery which revolutionised textile production. The factory and its machinery went through many metamorphoses before it closed for production in the middle of the last century. For his time Greg was quite an enlightened employer but by present western standards conditions were primitive and oppressive but they were better than many alternatives. |

Great angle, lovely coloured sky, simple but striking composition. It's a high-impact photo of a very impressive building.
It's just a shame about the huge shadow running across the bottom part of the building. Quarry Bank Mill is set in a deep valley, so I'm sure this would have been impossible to avoid at any time of the day... but I still find it a bit distracting. Good photo all the same. Very helpful Photographer's Note too.
