Photographer’s Note
This is a photo of the Great Wall of China at Huang Hua. (Around 80 kms north of Beijing) This part of the wall is currently not too touristy, as the wall is in ruins in places and is a little difficult to get to.
The Great Wall was built in many different stages. Over the years, as it started to get old and worn, the Chinese would simply add new layers of brick and rock over top of the old wall. It is kind of neat to travel to these parts of the wall that haven't been rebuilt, because you can see the older layers of wall underneath some of the new rock that has broken loose.
If you look at this photo closely underneath the peak of the mountain that is closest, you can see a trail zigzagging down the mountain. I'm fairly sure that the government is going to resore this entire section of the wall for the 2008 Olympics in Beijing, and this little trail is there to get supplies to the top easily.
As you look to the distance, the wall goes over the peak of every mountain as far as the eye can see, so I do not envy the workers that are going to have to restore this section!

Great shot, Mike, and an excellent note. I like how you have framed the photo and how it makes us feel that we are walking on the wall too. The numerous mountain tops in the misty background help to remind us of the size of the wall. Well done.

One really needs to visit this place to fully appreciate the scaling of this structure. No image will ever do it any justice!
What you post here Mike is worthy of commendation.

Nicely composed Mike. I like the way the Great Wall leads our eye into the frame and to a vanishing point in the midst. Well done.

Hi Mike! You've shown us a very different kind of Great Wall here. Very interesting and useful notes too! It must be really hard maintaining such a very long structure. I love the clarity of your pic - the foreground is so clear, you can clearly see the bricks; while in the background, the mist and mountains emphasize the length and height of the structures. Great shot! Thanks for sharing.
