[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
This underwater photo was taken while diving with the Fur Seals in Tasmania, Australia. This was definitely on my top 10 list of best dives. The water in Tasmania is pretty cold. Luckily we were there in summer - but water was still 57 degrees Fahrenheit. We had to wear 7mm farmer john wetsuits (so that's 14mm on our core), but I still got very cold on every dive in Tasmania. This dive however, I didn't really think about the cold at all. The seals were so curious and playful... and so fun to watch!

As we approached in the boat towards the island where the seals hang out - I think they were all laying out on the rocks. There were 7 divers on a small boat - wearing wetsuits so thick it was hard to move. We had to all gear up - so that we could all enter the water together - since the current can be difficult in this area. The boat could only get up close to the island long enough to drop us off - then back off.

After we all entered the water & descended, one or two seals came into the water to investigate. Then they disappeared. After a couple minutes - a couple more seals came to see us. In just a short time, there were dozens of them swimming all around us, flipping & posing in front of us - asking us to play with them. I'll have to admit - one of them did get me swimming in circles for a moment, as it chased my fins while I was trying to take his photo...

My only regret is that I decided to try my new camera for this dive & I did not have a wide angle lens - often the seals were just too close, so I could not get them in the frame. After this dive I went & bought a wide angle lens that would fit the lens port on my underwater housing - to get me through the rest of my trip!
