Photographer’s Note
Jaffa's clock tower, three-stories high and crowned with an elaborate multi-gabled roof, was built in the beginning of the 20th century to celebrate the silver jubilee of the reign of the Ottoman Sultan Abd al-Hamid the II. According to some sources it was built to commemorate the 30th anniversary of his reign. The clock tower stood in an elongated and ample plaza that was built just outside the walls of Old Jaffa. The plaza bordered with al-Mahmudiyya mosque, Jaffa's major mosque, and with the Kishle (prison) that were inside the old city. To the other side of the plaza, a monumental government palace, the New Saray, was built to replace the Old Saray that was located inside the city walls.
Travelers to Jaffa, coming from the sea in the beginning of the 20th century, would walk on a new and paved quay, surrounding the steep hill of the old city. The first site they would encounter when finally arriving at the entrance of the city would be the clock tower and the neo-classical façade of the New Saray. The clock tower still stands as a welcome sign in the northern border of Jaffa. In 1965 it was renovated and colorful mosaic windows designed by Arie Koren to describe the history of Jaffa were installed.

Hello David -
A well exposed architectural image with plenty of detail in both the shadows and the highlights. The midday light is not very flattering but you have managed it well.
Thank you for sharing.

Hi David,
I like the oblique angle you used the frame the tower against the sky. The polarizer has done its magic giving lovely color in the sky. The clouds emphsize the blue.

Hello David
Good graphism of the tower, against the blue sky, with excellent sharpness & colour. The diagonal axis of the road adds superb dynamism. Tfs!

Hi David - I obviously know the place, so you've found a nice angle to catch this landkmark; sharp, in excellent pretty light, and it's really good you have the people in the sun and the cab there for some nice action... congrats, Daniel

The quality of the image is perfect. The clock tower is pin sharp. I would say that the lighting is superb rather than harsh, and the sky is wonderful - polarised just right. Excellent exposure too.
Best wishes

Hi David,
Here is a photo good interesting and of a beautiful quality. I like much the clearness of the image which enables us to appreciate well the architectural details of this tower. Good framing in its environment and this superb sky gives a good relief to the unit. Beautiful work and thank you for the instructive note.
